Pickens appears to be a poor risk

Everyone. And I mean everyone in sports media yesterday say we won this trade. They are talking more about how bad it was for Pitts than how good it was for us.

The plan was to take Tet at 12. Carolina killed that deal so they now have a fantastic Guard, and got a seasoned WR for a 3rd. People talk about the Diva antics, but everyone agrees he brings to to the field. He’s a heck of a blocker as well.

I like your enthusiasm I hope they can get him to sign on the dotted line at some point and extend .

I think the issue is no long term plan. Jerry just winging it from decision to decision. That’s why we wait to sign guys, let guys play out an walk. Every decision affects another so you have to have an overal plan. By year 3 if you don’t plan to extend a guy you trade him. But that requires being in a position to do thst
Yeah, it's a business model unlike any other in really any sport.

As a devout fan of the Cowboys we just have to endure stubbornness and the narcissistic leadership of a man that won't delegate authority to a real GM.

We celebrate things that would be minor transactions to real GMs like Roseman and Sneed

I guess you're unware of the 6th we get from the Steelers or the fact that we will get a comp pick back if he signs elsewhere. These posts about this trade are ridiculous.
Yes but I feel no comfort from the 6th round in exchange for 5th. And there was no mention about recieving a comp pick if he signs elsewhere after this season.

He didn't want to negotiate with steelers for good reason. They have no qb. He wasn't happy with that situation and it isn't getting better anytime soon.

He was fined for his expletive...if he was fined for saying Jesus loves you on his eye black, would that be better? Jim McMahon used to basically do the same thing. Who cares? I don't.

He is a head case? And Randy Moss was a pot head. How'd it work out skipping moss for that avg defensive player we took instead?

How will we ever survive giving up a 5th? Do me a favor and go look back at our last 10 5th rd picks and start naming difference makers.

Steelers found an anxious taker? He'll yea they did, because we got the most talented wr that was remotely possible for us to get. Not a single wr that we had a chance to get is as good or young and cheap as Pickens. So yea, I'm damn glad we had an anxious taker.

You insinuate the mighty steelers took us to the cleaners. How long has it been since the steelers have won a playoff game? We may be more than a player away...but we are clearly one less player away.
Time will tell my friend. My hunch is this player will be difficult to resign next year.

So, if our 3rd round is worth a WR2 for one season with a team that probably isn’t going anywhere anyway. Enjoy. But don’t be too taken back if criticism follows.

I like it.

Can't even let the dust settle or hear from the player or, Heaven Forbid, see how it goes during the season.

It's already poor risk.

Jerral Wayne is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

so he plays lights out. we fizzle out of playoffs as usual (at best). and we just traded a mid 3rd round pick for a 4th round pick...and you are happy!?

that's who jerry is selling to. folks like you.
lol we get a comp pick back
Trade is an absolute no brainer
Pay closer attention

Wait, you’ve been crapping on them for not doing anything to make the team better and once they do you immediately crap on it?
Initially I was interested in the trade but once I read this players history and why Steelers were ready to part ways I pumped the brakes.

Dont be surprised if criticism follows? bahahahhahahahahahaha, is there any question about the criticism? If we resign him, no matter the cost, people will criticise our FO. If he leaves because he demanded 60 million per season, people will criticise.
If we sign him for cheap, people will criticise that we lost draft picks.

If Jesus himself sent out a text saying it was a fantastic trade, people will criticise.

This is why you guys will Forever complain. I’ve been busy but i will do a film room to back up my thoughts.

- zero risk trade, doesn’t work out likely recoup a 4th to 5th at worst for a comp pick - so your complaint about paying too much is not valid.

- contract offer from dallas will be less given state tax and endorsements, will be his decision to remain a cowboy

- automatic upgrade from WR2 and brandon cooks

- makes the offense instantly better, best deep catching WR since entering the NFL, and top 3 in catching balls that should be incomplete

- for everyone complaining around his catch percentage - what do you expect with fields, pickett, and old russ who can barely throw the rock.

FANTASTIC LOW RISK TRADE from our FO
His talent isn’t in question.

Ain't it nutty? Our fans are bipolar. They lost their way. Forgot how to celebrate success or to be positive when we do something good. I guess 30 years of falling short has messed up alot of folks.
Our dysfunctional ownership lack of success and overall poor decisions this era makes us question everything.

If he's awful, which I doubt, and leaves after the season and signs elsewhere, he'll probably land them a 2027 5th rd comp pick. If he's very good and leaves he'll probably land them a 2027 3rd rd comp pick. Hey if Brian is going to be the king of culture and all that, they need to be able to handle a non perfect citizen player. His skills are undeniable. If he falls in line, they'll find the money to keep him and have a top 5 duo for a few years. I am perfectly fine with the risk/reward factor.
Those compensatory picks are 4th and 6th rounders. Just because they are jammed at the end of the round and called a three doesn’t mean the actual value is a 3.

Obviously there’s a possibility it works out. The kid is talented. But there’s many caution signs surrounding him. That warrants some potential concern.

You’re right, had Pickens’ contract afforded Dallas another couple years then it would be a good calculated gamble giving up that 3 rd. But having to extend him next season if Dallas wants to keep him is not good at all. The Steelers sure as heck did not want that head case around.

Dallas not only has to pay MP, but next season has some OL they will have to deal with . Surprise, Surprise, Surprise… Jerry got taken to the cleaners yet again. This team was not a player away from the SB.
Right. And the fact the Steelers weren’t interested or couldn’t get or want to get a deal done raises red flags. Not to mention his personal issues .

His talent level isn’t in question. And you’re spot on. The fact he could only be here one season is what potentially whizzes on what otherwise could have been a sweet deal.

If we don’t re-sign Pickens and he moves on in free agency we’ll get the 5th we gave up in a compensatory pick so he’s not that big a risk.
But we still lose the 3rd round pick which generally becomes a stronger starter potential draft pick.

I’d take a 3rd over a 4th and 6th combined every time.

3rd round should deliver a starter or major contributor for years to come . Not just one season.

Cowboys need wayyy more talent to compete and make a playoff run, so Pickens is worth the risk...and it's not even that much of a risk, even if it's only a year.

Talent-wise, Pickens is the best #2 WR the Cowboys have had in a long time. Should be harder to double-team CD now, and this move likely improves the running game as well (harder to stack the box).

We need more talent injection, not less.
True , but is it worth the risk for one season , assuming it’s not a playoff season, giving up a 3rd round pick.

Now if we end up resigning Pickens and he’s our #2 for years to come then it’s a sweet deal.

That verdict will be out. And why there’s some red flags all basically surrounding his mental attitudes thus far and contract situation. Nothing to do with his talent .
