Pickens appears to be a poor risk

Yes but I feel no comfort from the 6th round in exchange for 5th. And there was no mention about recieving a comp pick if he signs elsewhere after this season.
I think we downgraded on the pick swap also.

Gave a 5th and got a 6th, no? I could be wrong.

Also that comp pick everyone is in love with as a consolation would be in 2027. If the rule of thumb is to downgrade a round in value for every year into the future, it’s really worth a 5th…and that’s only if someone else gives him the bag instead of a lowball due to his antics…..see: Beckham, Odell.

Best case I see….he fits in well, the team does well and he is a part of it, he happily accepts a tag for 26 and they take another run without leaving gaping holes elsewhere in March. Has a shot to work.

If he starts here for another contract then it should be a sound trade. It’s only the potential he might not which raises red flags for this deal. Along with his personal issues he’s had.

Not only are we giving up a 3rd and a 5th next year but we basically are signing him for only one season. On a team that isn’t one player away.

His rookie deal runs out and why Steelers traded him as he seems unwilling to negotiate. On top of that he’s a head case. His emotions are difficult to keep in check.

He was fined for using an expletive on his eye black against the Cowboys. He also drew wide spread criticism in 2023 for what could generously be described as the attentive downfield blocking for his teammates.

Considering his volatility, the Steelers didn’t seem interested in signing Pickens to a contract extension running out of patience for the talented but mercurial former 2nd round pick. A 3rd and 5th looks like they found an anxious taker.
He's a thug, give him a chance.

He needs to buy some diamonds from Jerra's money.

As we should I suppose. Guess I'm trying to remain faithful to my team. I have a belief...call it a hunch, that this team and staff will be different than what we think.
We can be faithful to our team without wearing blinders while not necessarily assuming things will be better. We have the same leadership at the top.

This trade could become a sweet deal. But there are enough concerns for some red flags.

Players like to make money.
Contract year.
His first chance for a free agent contract.
We probably get a good year out of him and then a good comp pick when he leaves.

Couldn't agree more. Listening to Matt Williamson on his podcast who works on/off for the Steelers he didn't doubt is ability but said no one in the Steelers organisation wanted to hang around with him.
That should be a red flag to Cowboy fans .
Thanks

First, thank you for sharing your thoughts, secondly, many of us will have trouble looking at the entire picture. Most will pick it apart, using whatever data they need to support their agenda, good or bad.
This could be a great trade. The kid is talented. Definitely adds a potential weapon.

But there are some concerns which are worthy of criticism.

I’d take a 3rd over a 4th and 6th combined every time.

3rd round should deliver a starter or major contributor for years to come . Not just one season.
You are missing my point…a third round compensatory pick is actually a fourth round pick.

This trade looks much better if Pickens is extended. You would think those dummies talked about that but Nepo Boy loves his 1 year vet minimum deals so Pickens is probably a one year wonder that cost another premium pick.

Comp picks are a thing. It’s not part of the trade because it doesn’t happen until a player leaves their team through free agency.

Unless he absolutely sucks and has to sign some terrible deal elsewhere, there *will* be a comp pick.

If the Eagles had done the exact same thing, you'd be praising them, kissing Howies behind and ripping Jerry for not doing it.same old story, around here.
Comparing an organization and culture that has been to 3 SBs in the last 10 years and won 2, to an organization that hasnt even won back to back playoff games in almost 3 decades is a feat only you can accomplish

Really really bad trade IMO

It will start out well but by November/Dec it can get ugly unless we are winning a lot and Pickens is getting a ton of targets

Outside of CeeDee Lamb, he’s the most pure WR talent the team has had since Dez. That’s reason enough for me to be excited for game day.

I’ll settle for a reasonably productive 2025, him being fine with the tag for 2026 (Parsons first year hit will be low), and the trade will likely be worth the cost.

The scenario of him netting a third in return goes away if he becomes a locker room problem again. He will get no big offers.
