Size comparison - Jayden Blue vs. historic RBs

Laser timed at combine and hand timed at pro day?
Correct.

And the hand times at pro day are a consensus. Meaning all the scouts have their own times and then they compare to come up with a consensus time.

Precisely why players choose to not run at the combine. Because they can cherry pick a time from their pro day. Which will inherently be faster than the combine already.

Possibly. He did have a small groin tear at the combine, at least according to him.

Jaydon Blue does a decent job pass protecting.

Start watching at the 6:23 minute mark...

One of the first things I heard about Jayden Blue is that he is too small to be a RB1. Blue is 5’9” tall (same height as Emmitt Smith), and 196 lbs. (4 lbs heavier than Tony Dorsett. So, if Blue cannot handle being RB1, it really isn’t his size that is the issue.

Blue didn’t have the college production of either Smith or Dorsett, and there isn’t much evidence from his college tape that he has the vision of either of those HOF players. Who knows if Blue knows how to pick up a blitzing LB, or help the tackle by chip blocking a DE on the way to the flat?

There are plenty of reasons you might choose to justify a belief that Blue is not a RB1, or a future HOF player. But size isn’t one of them. Barry Sanders was 5’8”, while other HOF backs were larger.

I’m interested in how Blue will perform. I have zero concern about his size.
My plumber looks to be about 5'9" and 195lbs.too.

What does THAT fact mean for Blue's future?

HE'S LITERALLY THE SAME SIZE AS THE GUY FIXING MY TOILET !!!!!!

He is nowhere near the same size or build as Emmitt Smith (220lbs) and Tony Dorsett played in the 70's when defensive football players were a lot smaller and slower.

I hope the kid proves everyone wrong but comparing him to two legends is doing him no favors.
220? maybe his final season

No, smh.

Blue didn’t start because he was behind a better pair of RBs in Bijan Robinson and Jonathan Brooks (drafted in the 1st and 2nd rounds respectively).

In fact, Blue’s teammate, CJ Baxter was set to be the starter in 2024 before he got injured (ACL) allowing Love to step in.
Yes ,Smh. I'm talking 2024-25. I've watched a ton of Texas games. Blue was used sparingly because they had Wisener, more of a between the tackles RB, bigger, more of a power guy, a better pass pro guy. Blue still needs to develop those type of things. Brooks can't even stay healthy or get on a field. Lol. Blue could have handled more carries and many Texas fans thought he should have been getting more reps.

Btw, Wisener isn't better than Blue. Just that he has a different style that sark wanted to use. Blue has big play ability and nobody can argue he doesn't. He's done it. The Texas RB room was stacked.

220? maybe his final season
No

He averaged 221 lbs throughout his career. In his first 2 years he weighed 216 and 218 respectivly but he was 220 + for the rest of his playing days.

No matter what that troll Rockport says

I watched almost every game of his collegiate career at Texas. He’s an explosive weapon rushing and receiving.

But he wasn’t an every down type starting RB. I believe he averaged 12 touches a game.

So while I’m excited we drafted a potentially explosive weapon I’m not at all convinced he’s capable of starting carrying the ball 20-25 times a game.

And one footnote he did have a tendency to leave the ball on the ground. Overall a great 5th round pick. But probably not our answer for full time starting RB.

Unfortunately the RB I thought we had our eye on from Texas Tech didn’t go until 6th round . Tahj Brooks led Big 12 in rushing. And he was a more typical starting RB . We had an opportunity to draft him.

Now with Brooks and Blue that could have been a very formidable answer for RB.

He will be a weapon. A glorified Tavon Austin, except he will be coming out of the backfield. All will depend on how Dak is able to utilize him. Thus far Dak struggles with hitting RB in stride or placing the ball in the opportune place. Sometimes by the time Dak checks down to the RB he is already covered

If Schottenheimer can teach Dak, Blue should be a valuable weapon. If not Blue will be pedestrian and there will ne some on here calling him a bust and a hindrance to Dak.

Rockport knows how to be pre-emptive folks. You can't push him in a corner. So don't even try!
Rockport is a Dallas Cowboys fan like I am ,and like me he wants to see Dallas win Super Bowl # 6.He is also a student of the game as I am ,we want to see Dallas be a great team once again..We are optimistic about this football team.

One of the downsides I saw some people talk about with Jeanty was he got overused. There's no way that we can predict how someone's career going to go with the amount of carries they had while in college.

Far we know Jeanty could start to wear down while others (IE Blue) could benefit from not getting 25 + carries a game.

I’m hoping the Cowboys will use Blue in similar fashion the Longhorns did. Not as our full time starting RB.

Only issue with that is counting on Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams to lead the way. Imo, those two don't really qualify as a #1.

I believe Emmitt was 5-9, 209 when he was drafted.
Give Blue a year in the weight room. He can bulk up some muscle, and do it without losing any speed.
Maybe add 8 to 10 pounds.

We all want to see the Cowboys have more success and win another SB. Being optimistic is fine but it’s more of a state of mind than based on recent history, current trends and actions taken along with status of leadership and culture.

But there is always hope it will turn. And once it begins more will be more optimistic . After decades of disappointment and frustration it’s natural for most fans to be skeptical.

As fans we don’t have to be wide eyed and bushy tailed like the players do. They need to believe . We can wait and see while rooting our team on .
