Jerry, Stephen, Schottenheimer, McClay and the Cowboys FO outsmarted everyone

everything is not about the Super Bowl. touch grass

Why even play the game if that isn't the goal every year. You sound like Jerry - all he wants is to be 'relevant and interesting'. Maintaining that standard keeps the cash keeps flowing. Money is Jerry's only goal.

You know, I miss the first 35 years when we went to the playoffs 23 times, 14 NFC Championship games, 8 super bowl appearances, and 5 superbowl victories. Oh, and two NFL championship games pre-super bowl era. Playoff success was the expectation.

Now it's "yay 7th place regular season Champs for the past 20 years".

My how the mighty have fallen both in terms of results and some fan's expectations.

Ask a patriot fan what they enjoy more about those 20 years, the 1st place in regular season wins or the 11 AFC Championship games, 7 superbowl appearances and 4 superbowl Championships.

I'd tell you to get back to me with the answer but it was rhetorical.

PS - we're the only team on your list without at least 1 superbowl championship in that timeframe (never mind superbowl or championship game appearance) but yay us I guess.
Great post.

Someone call an ambulance for Game over after this post.

Stealers said there was little interest in Pickens. So the Cowboys were one of very few (possibly the only team) who called asking about him.

I do not define that as the Cowboys FO outsmarting everyone.
article I just saw said other teams had no interest in adding him to their locker room. time will tell.

Are other fan bases preparing a celebration for their front offices just doing their job?

Absolutely, they have been more active than most years & maybe these swings put a better product on the field. If so, they deserve credit. For doing their job. Nothing extra. It only looks & feels great because their baseline is so low.

People acting like we won the SB. Jesus, this fanbase has some low expectations. This roster at one point had Amari Cooper and Ceedee Lamb paired up. I recall people saying the same thing - how will defenses handle these two on the field at the same time. What exactly did they win? Anything? No? Yea great we got a stud WR from the Steelers, let's see how it all transpires instead of claiming that we have won something without playing a single down of football.

I am not sure outsmarted is the right word. We have to wait and see how this plays out. Many teams supposedly didn't want Pickens because of his demonstrated poor temperament. They just didn't want to take the risk for what the Steelers were asking.

I am hoping Pickens sees Dallas as an opportunity to shed the bad image and set himself up for a big contract in 2026. But the problem is, often these headcases are the last ones to see things that way. If he is disruptive in Dallas, then everyone else will have been smarter than the Cowboys. If he plays well this year and stays focused on football and the team, then gets a big contract in 2026, people will still argue that the Cowboys were stupid for giving up too much for a one year player.

The flip side of that pancake is only one of those teams have not made it to a league championship game.

Do you understand how the comp picks work?
Yes I do.

We had a mid 3rd rounder or higher.
Now it's actually in reality a 4th rounder at best. The comp.pick is after all teams in 3rd round pick. And then comp picks. Essentially top of 4th...we also traded a 5th for a 6th.

So yeah he is right. Traded down for a one year rental.

Now you want to call it a 3rd round comp your choice. Reality is it's not in the top 96 which is all of 3 rounds.

Of course not. But give credit where credit is due. This ownership, front office and new coaches have taken the first step at making some very well thought out, well planned and designed draft and free agency signings/trades to help bolster the team while clearly taking the steps to start changing the culture within this organization. Does it mean it will work? We don't know yet. Time will tell. But for the meantime, they deserve a little credit for taking the necessary steps to make certain changes and get the ball rolling in the right direction...finally.
The Commanders ownership group, after initiating significant change, goes to the NFCCG in their first year. Their off season was add Samuel, Tunsil, Wise, Kinlaw and J. Jones in free agency. Apparently losing to Philly in the playoffs did not sit well with them.

Cowboys trade for Pickens in the off season and suddenly the team is ready to compete for the division title and playoff wins?

Wow those are some crazy quality additions I had no idea. Going to be a challenging year.
