Nowadays, a QB can easily be highly productive into his late 30's even early 40's. The protection they get from the rules and refs means they take a lot fewer hard hits. And modern medicine and exercise routines and so on also make a difference. I remember when I was first a cowboys fan that a QB at 32 or so was considered an old man. And honestly, not a lot of players outside of kickers were lasting much beyond that, not at least as top level playersInteresting that he retired. He's only 34. But, I guess not everyone can play QB into their 40's like the goat Brady!! LOL
His shoulder is shot. It sounds like he'd prefer to live with whatever limited functionality it has rather than go through surgery, rehab and continued degenerative activities. When you make a deal to pass on $30M so you can retire without having to go through said surgery, it sounds like the odds of wanting to make an Adrian Peterson late career desperation cash grab aren't very high.He will unretire at least once...........
He could have had the surgery, rehab and returned in 2026. A couple of nuggets suggesting some tension between him and the Saints right after the season ended. I still believe he will unretire or at least try next year. His shoulder is shot. He’s had injury issues and appeared to be done in 2025 with a shoulder injury. Not a good start for Kellen Moore.Interesting that he retired. He's only 34. But, I guess not everyone can play QB into their 40's like the goat Brady!! LOL
His days as the starter would have likely been over had he decided on that. He can’t stay healthy and NO would move on. He’ll be 34 next season and the Saints drafted a QB in the second round. If he doesn’t look good they’ll probably use a first round pick on a QB next April. They’ll be a better crop of QBs then.He could have had the surgery, rehab and returned in 2026.
He had $30 million reasons to have the surgery and rehab. The fact that he basically gave up that amount to not do it seems to say that he's done. When "degenerative" is mentioned with regards to a joint, smart players will start to think about how much damage is worth the paycheck. I'm pretty sure Drew Brees can't really use his right arm for throwing now other than a gentle back yard toss with a kid. If you've made over $200 million in your career, the decision to hang it up is not as difficult. I say that while operating under the assumption that he's managed his wealth better than Adrian Peterson. He could have had the surgery, rehab and returned in 2026. Carr is such the anti-diva.He will unretire at least once...........
