7th rounders are dart throws. Most, not always. Depends on how much homework scouting dept does. Of course, a little luck never hurts. But it's really more of a game of evaluation than luck.
COVID years have bottlenecked talent and so there's been more players. Or more developed talent available.7th rounders are dart throws.
Agree that it's more about evaluation than luck, but that's primarily in rounds 1-4.
You or I don't have to understand it, it's what they do. Impact players are drafted. This Pickens trade is an exception to the rule. Don't expect more.I think they sign a free agent. Doesn't have to be the draft. That's what I don't get. We don't have to draft one to get better at the position.
Yeah, if they sign him now. If he plays great, his market value goes up 10-15m. He's already at 25M. They'll let him walk for the comp pick. They really have no reason to lose him. We have cap space.
A couple more free agents at key positions and we should be good. We don't need 4 RBs or TEs. They need to keep extra DTs this year
exactly. quite a bit of conflict argument from "Jerry-Lovers" crowd. The round never matters once the player is in camp, but how soon you address a position in the draft matters a ton. Most 7th rounders are no more than camp fodder. Sure hope we got a steal, as the NT position is the worst on the team. Waiting til the 7th was quite foolish.
moves the needle for regular season. probably. moves the needle in post season? I doubt it. but Cowboys are regular season champions as many will argue and celebrate. @RockportIf we're relatively healthy, that alone moves the needle. But otherwise, I look at it based on the draft, since that's how this team is built. In this case, add Pickens. I don't count the mortar they use to fill in the holes. Does this draft class and Pickens move the needle? I think so. But I think we might need one more good draft class to contend. Which is why I'm going to be none too happy if we lose Pickens after the season.
most who you call haters, argue that we are better. but are we a championship team? if this is a one year rental, and we were one player away, then I 100% agree with you.Yes we are 100 % better not matter what people say ! Those saying that are Cowboy s haters !
when was the last time Cowboys spend money on FAs (outside of resigning their own). They really have no reason to lose him. We have cap space.

there is a dispenser at the front enterance of the cowboys building. its some kind of special koolaid, that when the players walk in for the first time they have a drink and the other team's garbage become Cowboys heros....Are we to assume that all those busts from other teams are suddenly to become top shelf starters that will topple the Eagles and Skins?
Because they weren't all brought on for depth. You WILL see some of them starting.
29th in NFL team spending has consequences when your roster has a lot of holes to fill
this offense can be good. the defense is a big unknown. because of that we may not be able to compete with anyone. just see 2023 when we had the #1 scoring offense and got spanked in playoffs because defense sucked and offense got neutralized by a bette defense. We definitely improved. I haven't been this excited about an offseason since we signed Laroi Glover back in the early 2000s. On paper this team can compete with anyone out there. It's obvious last year we Tanked and it's frustrating as it was, it is providing dividends.
Unfortunately some of that Kool Aid is being drank by some of our fans and that's perfectly fine but some of us are really getting tired of saying " we told you so" for the last 3 decades.there is a dispenser at the front enterance of the cowboys building. its some kind of special koolaid, that when the players walk in for the first time they have a drink and the other team's garbage become Cowboys heros....
sarcasm fully intended.
I 100% agree with you. the moves this off season were to check the box and fill the roster. ....
difference is they addressed it and won a superbowl after having been in the superbowl a couple years before.Drafting well doesn't guarantee success. A lot of things have to fall into place to reach Super Bowls. Coming off a Super Bowl season, the Eagles unraveled the year before last because everything didn't fall into place for them. It could easily happen again.

what!?COVID years have bottlenecked talent and so there's been more players. Or more developed talent available.
No. As usual we'll compete but not contend. I think we need one more good draft.moves the needle for regular season. probably. moves the needle in post season? I doubt it. but Cowboys are regular season champions as many will argue and celebrate. @Rockport
Quite possibly, but 7th rounders are still dart throws.COVID years have bottlenecked talent and so there's been more players. Or more developed talent available.
Cherry picking to attempt to justify what they want to believe.exactly. quite a bit of conflict argument from "Jerry-Lovers" crowd.
On the one hand they argue, only 10-15% of 3rd rounders amount to anything in NFL, to justify the Pickens trade. they argue about Mingo trade and value of 4th rounder being nothing. then in the same breath they argue we added a 7th round DT to the position to justify that we addressed the defense.
baffling
Especially when you draft Trysten and Schooner and Kelvin and Mazi w/ high picks. Yes, everyone misses in the draft, but you just cannot miss that many high draft picks and expect to excel. Especially since better players were there. Are we to assume that all those busts from other teams are suddenly to become top shelf starters that will topple the Eagles and Skins?
