Would like to see some creativity with 21 personnel. Sometimes with Blue and Mafa in the backfield and sometimes with Blue and Turpin in the backfield. Can motion both Blue and Turpin into receivers against a run box OR motion blue out and run Mafa into a more spread D. This is based on many years of coaching experience on Madden pre 2012.

I think a two back backfield is actually the key to our success offensively this year. Running two backs out of the backfield with the rotations as you described will keep defenses guessing, and will force them to keep base packages in on D,as the run will be a real threat, but not a predictable one. Excellent mismatch possibility. I suspect this is what McClay mentioned when he said Shotty had tricks up his sleeve for Blue. Hoping that includes lots of any two of Blue/Mafa/Turpin in the backfield, with Blue and Mafa motioning to slot frequently.

Any creativity would be a huge welcomed change.

if we see that, and it won't be often, as you said Blue is probably motioned to the slot. I like the idea of blue and turpin in the slot. specially if they can get a favorable match up against Blue with a LB. or force them to bring in a saftey to match up with blue, which favors running the ball with a bigger back.
 
If we can actually run the ball effectively on early downs and in the RZ— there will be plenty of ways to hurt teams in a variety of personnel packages.

But if they don’t fear your running game— then it won’t matter who you motion out of the backfield or line up in the slot or whatever lol…

For my money, I like us in 12 personnel a bit better. Lamb and Pickens at WR, Ferg and your best blocking TE on the field, and Blue at RB. You can max protect if you need to, and you can pass easily with guys that can hurt you at every level, or you can maul people in the running game with speed at RB to make house calls. Not an easy personnel package to defend

Are we sure that he's going to make the team, if we drafted him a bit earlier, i'd say yeah he's a lock! Sanders and Williams may prevent this from happening, we shall see.


I like we're you're going with the creativity aspect, this offense needs to present more challenges to defenses, instead of just giving them the same looks, let's actually make them work!

We need to resurrect the two back cross buck play. It worked really well in the 60s.

I feel pretty confident he will. And sanders and williams seem pretty diminished to me. Blue has sub 4.3 speed and was a 6+ ypc back. They'll be keeping him.
 
To me the Cowboys are finally putting together a good enough offense that they dont need to be dependent upon gimmicks. I'd anticipate a lot more 12 personnel than 21 this year to utilize both TEs to create that balanced run/pass approach.

I'd also say that no defense is going to consider Turpin a RB and will have their nickel defense on the field when he is out there. To me that is the advantage of something like this is to try and exploit matchups, but its very unlikely you'll get that Turpin on a LB situation. I suspect that most of your 21 packages are going to include a FB being in the game.

I actually think you get better looks and reads on a defense by starting out in 5 wide and bringing guys in more so than the other way around.

Yeah I think Mafa is very much on the roster bubble. Especially if they keep Leupke, they may try to stash Mafa on the PS this year.

Yeah I'll give him a chance, but I see it the same way. His hype seems to be coming more from highlights than full game tapes. I get the feeling he would have a pretty limited role in the NFL
 
Yes this offense is deep and versatile. They need to use it to our advantage!

I can already see a play where CDL is outside on a slant, Pickens outside on a go, Turpin in the slot on a slugo under CDL, Blue in the back field splits out wide and runs a wheel behind Pickens and either Williams or Mafa in the backfield on an inside carry or block and release underneath.
That is going to create a ton of pressure on defenses to try and figure out where the ball is going.

Not a doubt on Blue in anyway, i'm more referring to just because we drafted another RB doesn't mean he's going to make the team (mafah)

True. I think/hope that he is better than your usual 6th rd pick. Only because this RB class was very deep. Maybe in another year he's a 4th rd pick. We'll see. Would love to have a bruiser. Haven't had that in a long time.

This is right. He's like a receiver who plays RB really well too.

It's not a bad thing. Makes him dynamic.
