The final missing piece on Defense for 2025+

Why would Detroit move on from Reader when they consider themselves Super Bowl contenders and they see the best team in the NFL uses the tush push non stop. With the injuries they suffered last season on defense, it would not be a good move to move on from the defensive tackle. They literally lost 9 of their top defensive players for at least more than 4 games last year. Several for the season and the playoffs.
They drafted Tyleik Williams and signed Roy Lopez in FA. They are stacked at DT.

They drafted a 1 tech in the 1st round.

Jerry Jones said he had 2 big trade moves to make this offseason before the 2025 season starts. 2 big bold trade moves that would make or break this season going forward.

Well, Jerry definitely made a big bold move trading for WR 1b George Pickens who is only 24 years old, is a legit WR1 receiver and automatically makes he and CeeDee one of the best duo WR threats in the NFL.

But that is help for offense.

How about defense?

Isn't there 1 more big trade left for Jerry Jones to make? This defense has been retooled drastically via free agency and the draft. Plus, several veteran players are coming back from serious injuries. Add in a new O-Coordinator and new D assistant coaches, this defense definitely is expected to be much better. But it is still missing 1 big piece to help take it over the top the way WR George Pickens takes the offense over the top.

How about if Jerry makes this veteran player his 2nd big bold trade move who would take this defense over the top?

Such a big ol' nasty and proven 1-tech Nose Tackle in DJ Reader could definitely be the missing link!

What say you?

Again, I don’t think Detroit has any desire or incentive to trade him.
They’re looking at themselves as a sure fire SB contender who has to go through Philly and that run game just like everyone else.
I don’t see them ready to hang their hat on a rookie especially when there’s virtually no financial incentive to do so.
First off they just paid Reader a 4 million roster March 4th.
Second his base pay is 6.6m, his dead cap in around 5, so moving on only saves them a bit over 1.5m!

On Dallas side, I don’t think Jerry is quite ready to move on from Mazi just yet and pay someone at the position 6.6m for a position that plays 35-40% of the snaps.
Assuming they were looking to add to the position I’d think Andrew Billings who just got pushed to 2nd string in Chicago and his 2m base would be more palatable both cap and trade compensation wise .

In the end I think they’ll see how the Abenkosete (sp) kid looks in camp and then target a tweener type with position flex (305-315 lb range) and one of the spare guards as trade bait. Assuming him and Daxon aren’t up to par!

The LB position doesn’t excite me in the least . I mean depth is virtually non existent and Sanborn & Murray are about at the level of adequate . Hoping the late season Liufau keeps improving . Read up on the Florida LB they traded up for in the 5th he sounds like a ST warrior . The defense is worrisome to say the least maybe Eberflus can team up with Sanborn make something out of it from Chicago.
DT is worse off than LB. With all the flaws you can point out on defense (questionable LB depth, inexperience at DE, health at CB, overall S play) none comes close to how pathetic we are at DT.

..was hoping we got another safety. Wilson and Hooker are okay.

Hooker chasing jerseys to many times, gives me jeebies. Hoping Eberflus puts him in better positions.

They got hit horribly hard on their D; I think they would have made it to the SB if that had not happened.

Great post, brother!

DeMarvion Overshown played a little bit of Safety in college before moving to LB. Do you think Eberflus should try him at Safety, or is that too much strain on his knees? I would think it would be less than playing LB. He has the speed. It's his knees that worry me.
