The term “hope” often implies quite the longshot.

If he has the same desire for the spotlight as the old man, it’s over. I get it.

I’m with you in that I hope Stephen runs things differently.

Hope is simply a desired result coupled with some degree of possibility, regardless of the probability. It doesn’t imply probability and it doesn’t equate to expectation.

People shouldn’t feel the need to justify having hope, regardless of how much some may disagree or try to convince you that your hope is unwarranted.

You are more describing expectations. Hope is the desired outcome…not the expected outcome. Hope is not governed by the likelihood of the desired outcome happening.

When someone buys a lottery ticket, they hope to win.
I hoped the Mavs would win the lottery (1.8% chance).
I hope my kids live a happy, healthy, moral life.
And I hope Stephen runs the team different than Jerry and Pickens isn’t a knucklehead.

That doesn’t mean I expect all of those things to happen.
