Who do you have more confidence in Mazi or Guyton moving ahead?

-Mazi Smith had a better 2nd season where he flashed at times, but struggled with consistency. He did miss a good portion of the offseason coming back from injury. Run defense was bad last season as a whole, they also were dead last in red zone D and allowed the most rushing TD's in the entire league. 3rd DC in as many years, but his clock is ticking to make that jump.

-Tyler Guyton was a penalty machine, had 18, the 2nd most in the entire league. Keep in mind, he was in and out of the lineup due to injuries and poor performance. He was one of the main reasons why they were among the worst red zone offenses with drive killing penalties. His play did improve as the season progressed and we have to put it into perspective, Tyler Smith had 15 as a rookie, so there is hope. Also, factor in the switch to Left Tackle, where he played Right Tackle the majority of his college career. It isn't that easy for a young player to make that transition. Tyron Smith played his whole rookie yr as a RT before he made the switch.

According to you we're getting rid of 30% of our team before the season starts...

I mean I don't know where you're getting all this stuff but you said both our safeties need to go all our depth along the offensive line need to go tolbert are wide receiver number three needs to go I mean Sam Williams who might have a bright future needs to go I mean we're just getting rid of everyone you don't have confidence in anyone i'm glad you're not the GM because we'd wake up missing about 30 players short of starting the season..lol

This isn't fantasy football mozzy Smith will probably make the team at depth but I don't think he's going to be the starter moving forward for much longer but he'll still have some value in the rotation but no as a starter I have no more clear loyalty to the man.

And yes Guyton I have a lot of confidence he'll at the very least he'll be the right tackle of the future it's not going to be a bad pick the fact that Cooper BB was attached to the trade down to get Guyton people need to remember you put them two together that's a very good draft,,,

But I have confidence in Klayton Adams and Riley to get this kid back on track at left tackle I don't think he had true physical issues it's the mental issues and you got banged up and he was being pulled a lot in and out in and out like a yo-yo so I think he'll get back on track for left tackle but at worse he'll be moved to right tackle and is still not a bad pick late in the first round when you attach your starting center of the future with him...

I really did not like either pick and nothing they have done since joining the Cowboys has changed that.

Guyton has never looked like an NFL tackle to me. I think the only chance he has is to move him to guard and hope he gets better by next season.
I disagree he's not going to be a guard at worse he's going to be the future right tackle and there's nothing wrong with that and the move down into the 20s I can't remember where we picked him mid to late 20s you know Cooper of Bebe is attached to that trade down they go together and together it makes it a great pick IMHO

I mean seriously I think Adams and Riley being very offensive lying genius types they're going to focus on the offensive line they're going to try to make every player better with scheme and teaching and if Guyton just doesn't cut it at left tackle, he will definitely be a right tackle..

I believe a lot of the problems was mental he lost his confidence and it didn't help that coaches kept bringing a man pulling him out some of it was injuries but there wasn't a lot of teaching going on there wasn't a lot of let's help this guy there aren't too many problems on both tackles last year to cover them up you know the tight ends didn't even block well when they got in I mean whoever was trying to keep this offensive line moving in the right direction was doing a really bad job of it...

In order to give an educated response we’d need to know the mental makeup of both players. Their attitude because both have the physical tools so it comes down to how much do they want it. None of us know about that aspect.

I have confidence in the new coaching staff having confidence in both of them.
And that should give fans confidence as well.
I feel both will improve.

But it won’t give fans confidence.

Ugh.
Since the neither category is offered its hard to quantify how less of a bust either one can achieve performing at their individual jobs.

It ain't hard for all the other Zoners who have All 22 like me to see Guyton's fundamental balance issues as a 6'7"" man. Hes on the ground alot.He plays clumsy and awkward and it's not all just footwork. It's balance and that may not be a thing that can be coached up.

Mazi is similar in pure and near catastrophic failure at his basic job description requirements.
While firing off the line a half second late every snap, the split nano second he moves laterally to the left or right while engaging he has already lost. He's being pushed backwards. By individual centers or guards. Not double teams.
As though on skates many times several yards backwards.

So my choice is between that, hmmmmm...?

I guess I'll hafta check this year's performance by both to see who sucks more if that can be measured between 2 different positions.

Too early to give up on him as a Left Tackle.

That is what good teams do, they churn their roster to improve their team.

There's a lot more thinking and understanding on the offensive side of the ball...because of that, I think a season and another off season, will be huge for Guyton. Throw in maturity, I see him playing very well for us.

What we have heard, Guyton is immature needs to grow up and Mazi struggles with confidence. Neither appear to be mentality tough

I really do hope you are right, but he has not played or looked like a tackle to me.

Maybe a new coaching staff will help him improve.
