Dak needs to practice on trusting making throws towards Pickens when Pickens looks covered. Just get it high enough or with enough air under the throw to make it difficult for the defender to put his hands on the catch but easy enough for Pickens to adjust and make the catch.

This isnt true ...........Dez numbers tanked coz he was a poor route runner. Romo knew how to throw Dez open. Dak expects his WRs to run correct routes or "be where they're supposed to be".
There is a reason Dez hired a WR coach to help him with routes after he left the Cowboys.

I think the best Mendoza line of the dynamic is the Cooks trade. With what you paid him each year, was his production worth giving up the 5th rounder and the cap space? Maybe a mediocre trade overall, but you could argue his presence in the offensive system opened up things that weren’t there before. Dak had a big season in 2023; it’s probably not nearly as big without Cooks even if he didn’t contribute substantially to it.

So Dallas with Pickens is very likely better than Dallas without Pickens, regardless of whether he lives up to the draft compensation lost.

You really don't see it, do you? That's how psychology operates though.

The thing I'll be watching for is the deep, deep ball. Again, not that "20+ air yards" stuff the statisticians call a "deep" pass, but the bomb balls. Those are game-changing plays that hype the offense and deflate a defense. Unfortunately, Dak is just not good at those. Now that we have a guy who's good at getting down field this will be in the spotlight. Did we just not have the players and that's why? To be continued.

The bigger the moment, the more pronounced this will be.

This is why Eli was ...."successful". He would heave it up...and he had a couple receivers that would flat our hunt it down and often make unbelievable catches.

It would appear Pickens has some of this in him...unlike anything we have seen in quite some time. IMO Dak has to change his mentality about it. Again...IMO...Dak has to see a receiver in a very specific spot with very specific coverage. He looks for the less risky pass. It has often served him well...but HERE... he needs to take advantage of what Pickens can apparently do.

As we all know...the running game...AND unpredictable/effective play calling!...will be a huge part of it...pulling in or at least hesitating some of the extra coverages.
