Depth Chart, where things stand at OT

Funny, I remember the consensus being he was a top 10 LT. As a rookie, who is going to best Aaron Donald? Tyler was great his rookie year. He just always projected better at guard in terms of SPARQ and play style. But he's still an above average tackle.

Someone did a hindsight re-draft, which had Tyler Smith at #9.

That said, if we had a better LT it would make sense to have him at LG. But he's way better than Guyton and Guyton would be better in the right side.

They should at least take a look at the possibility in case of injury. To say he was below average at LT is revisionist history.
He was not a top 10 left tackle. He was a top 10 guard his second season though. Donald was the only end that got the best of him either. He saved the Cowboys season no doubt but let’s not overstate him. Tyler was average left tackle at best.

Guyton and Steele both sucked last season. If BS really makes the five best O-Linemen play they better have a great TC and Preseason.
On the positive, pretty much every 'commentator' has identified Steele as being the biggest beneficiary of the new regime due to Zimmer Solari's approach (and having RG being injured for the whole of 2024).
On Guyton, he was drafted at 29 and had 'areas of improvement' - Brugler and 'good starter within two years' - Zierlein.......add in the rumor that Solari/Zimmer and their position of 'Dead men walking' had no interest in spending time developing the future.
Lets just see how the new regime work, especially with the strength of the interior O-Line .

Both were really bad last year, but its hard to believe that either will have their jobs up for grabs. Despite being the biggest hole on the team right now I think the tackle spots are locked down unless one of these guys completely falls on their face in camp.

I hope they give Hoffman a legitimate shot
He is a fighter as you stated plays with a lot of heart
If Shotty is true to his word and they play the 5 best
Then Smith could kick pack out to Lt Tackle
Then Booker at lt guard and Hoffman at rt guard
I know it might be a pipe dream

Thoughts ?
Exactly. Find your best combination rather than predetermine which position each has to play.

Now if someone steps forward & wins the LT position, fine. Hoff would then need to give way.

I get what your saying. But OT isn't the biggest hole on this team.

And that has nothing to do with this year. There are big reasons to believe both will be better this year. Guyton should make a huge leap.
Guyton can make a leap or become more of a bust. We will have to wait and see.

As for Steele. I dont have hope that he turns it around. He was always bad in Pass Pro to begin with.

Tackle is weak until you include Tyler Smith in the conversation.
They just taught him the alligator roll where he raps up his victim and takes him under. I hear he is over 12' long about now. I'm counting on him to be very hungry now!

The Dallas Cowboys may be in store for a breakout season from offensive tackle Tyler Guyton in 2025.

After an uneven rookie campaign in 2024, Guyton is poised for a breakout year in 2025, thanks to a revamped offensive system led by offensive coordinator Klayton Adams and offensive line coach Conor Riley.

The homestead just needs to keep up the stock for right tackle. And let those tackles fight it out for the whole season.

This is in the past ...The Cowboys’ offensive line struggled overall, ranking 22nd in block win rate and allowing 38 sacks, among the bottom ten in the NFL.

The Dallas interior will end the season top shelf and Guyton will show the real special skills he possesses.

Over the next few weeks, the DC writers will discuss depth chart for the position groups.

Yes, players have been discussed many times already. But this will be from the writers with possiblysome different takes, and catches thoughts. As the team added over 30 players to the roster this off-season.

BS said the best 5 will start, as all coaches say that anyway.
First up, the OT's
There is a good possibility that Richards might be our best tackle, but finds himself as a reserve due to Guyton's draft status and Steeles contract.

Guyton is the most talented, but they really need to use Richards to push Guyton to maximize that talent

He was actually below average. He was passable, and given that he prepared for LG and not LT, that was a triumph. But he was a below average LT

He can compete and work on both sides. My money is on left side - Guyton.

I get what your saying. But OT isn't the biggest hole on this team.
If Guyton doesnt make a leap, OT could derail the season. Maybe Guyton makes a jump, but you keep saying he will with utter assurance. That ia a complete article of faith. There are red flags that popped up that you ignore

That is only in case of emergency

there is no way they're moving Smith unless they absolutely have to..

so they're going to give everyone else a shot before that happens but I would be okay with that lineup but there's a reason they're trying to keep Smith who is probably an all pro at left guard but only could be maybe a pro bowler at left tackle at best..

I think people think he's a lot better left tackle than issues that are developing right now maybe he actually is you guys are wanting it in your brains... I think they know he can just be a good left tackle but how much better is he than what we have there but you're weakening in my opinion you're taking an all pro out of a position that's why they haven't done it and probably won't do it unless it's absolutely dire... I don't care how good Hoffman or Booker turn out to be they're not all pros not yet we don't know what they're going to be so you're removing an all pro from left guard and putting him out to a position he might just be kind of good at you have to weigh that of maybe weakening two positions just to help one..
