They discuss the roles of Deuce and Luepke. Yes they have been discussed, but here are a few answers to consider for further discussion along with the OP of Williams being healthy. And any challenges for all 3.

It’s a 1M bet by the Cowboys. That the GTD part of his deal.

His speed is likely gone after the freak injury.

He’s UFA also.

Pretty important because the season is going to hinge on the running game and he's the most complete back they have. Sanders is washed up and Blue supposedly is not good in pass protection and has had fumble issues. The rest of the RB are just backups.

I'm intrigued by Williams and I probably have a higher view of his upside than most. If this line stays healthy and blocks as it should, I can easily see him getting his average YPC back over 4.0 even while being our short yardage specialist. At worst, I think he's a healthier, younger, and cheaper version of what Zeke was giving us his last few seasons with the team (2020-2022).

Just like someone else Dallas has on the roster. What kind of injury takes 3 years to fully recover from? That sounds very concerning. Especially when he's only 25. A 3 year recovery might make more sense for a 35 year old.

We'll see. Hope thats the case. Don't really remember a RB taking 3 seasons to recover and then playing like they did pre-injury, but it would be amazing.

My first in-person impression of Javonte Williams was very good. My wife is a Broncos fan. They were playing the Saints in the Superdome last October on Thursday night. Our marriage contract stipulates I must accompany her when she has an opportunity to go watch Denver--unless it interferes with a Cowboys game (fine print).

I also play fantasy football. Thursdays kick off each fantasy week. My fantasy opponent had Javonte Williams as his RB1. And Brian Robinson as his RB2 (dude had a poor draft but I digress). Saints could not contain Williams. He ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns while accumulating 26 fantasy points. He also had Denver's defense, which tacked on eight additional fantasy points.

I did not what was worse. Being surrounded by Saints fans or being in a 34-fantasy point hole to kick off that particular week--mainly due to Williams production. Luckily, that week ended with me destroying my opponent 169-123 but that game garnered my first-time interest in what Williams was capable of.

Unfortunately, what my eyeballs witnessed was an atypical game performance-wise for Williams last season. It was his best game by far. So, I am left wondering whether Dallas will benefit more from an atypical 2024 performance from Williams or his usual games--IF he manages to make the final cut of course.

The problem is the Cowboys can't take to long to decide to go with another RB if Williams is struggling early. Last year they waited way to long to make Rico the primary RB due to their love for Zeke

In Dallas, 'cannot take too long' speaks directly to the autonomy coaches own in making roster decisions in my opinion. While I think Deuce Vaughn has been used incorrectly, I do not think he is a starting running back also. Thus, my assumption is based on veteran signees Williams and Miles Sanders, along with draftees Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah.

IF Blue and/or Mafah impress Jerry Jones early, one or both will receive significant playing time sooner than later. If one or both do not meet Mad Genius' expectations, I would suggest patience watching Williams or Sanders struggle this year--even though neither are Ezekiel Elliott.
