Schottenheimer starts off OTA with some paintball

But Philly isn't doing this. They're using every precious moment to get better at football, not paintball/dodgeball/kickball/goofball.
Bleeding Green Nation

Last year marked the first time in Nick Sirianni’s head coaching tenure that the Eagles held a mandatory minicamp. That was a three-day stretch whereas this year the reigning Super Bowl champions only have one mandatory minicamp practice. The Eagles are the only NFL team hosting a sole day of minicamp; every other team has at least two days scheduled.

Sounds like they may be phoning it in this year.

It build camaraderie with the players.
Why do you have a hard time with them doing this.

It unites players. It does not need to be on the field all the time. It is like fans thinking a player needs to be in the film room or on the field constantly, and have no life or personal time.
I agree with this premise but honestly. My company makes every employee read a book. It’s a small book nothing crazy. It’s called 5 dysfunctions of a team.

This team needs to read it. There are 5 dysfunctions and this team displays all of them at different times.

That starts up top though.

I think everyone has gone to Christmas parties.

I don't see any holiday lights or snow on the ground right now though.

Your rationalizing this. Inside...maybe DEEP inside...you know this is just in the first few days of OTA and they're playing PAINTBALL instead of practicing, using VERY VERY limited time on a KIDS game instead of trying to hone their craft. If the freakin' Eagles were doing this, I MIGHT be able to say "well, I guess they've earned it...but still not wise"

But Philly isn't doing this. They're using every precious moment to get better at football, not paintball/dodgeball/kickball/goofball.

But dallas is skipping practice in just Day2? !!! DALLAS!?!?!?! you know that's the LAST team that should be doing this. Dallas....underperformed, immature, podcasting, choking, mistake prone DALLAS? come on....you know this is dumb. It's like telling a high school kid who's failing every class he's in because he's too lazy to study and just wants to goof off "hey son, feel free to skip school today and just stay home and play Xbox all day". This is just coach Shorty trying to cater to his spoiled players in an attempt to get them to like him.
BS, Philly isn't doing it? Teams have limited time for these OTA's. It is part of the CBA.
You are acting like Philly is 24 / 7 practicing. They are not.
How do you know what Philly is or is not doing, you keep up on what they do?

You probably think OTA's are a waste of time anyway. I am pretty sure you posted they do not mean a thing.
Then you complain how they use their time.
You think one less day of practice, which really is not a practice is going to make a difference and ANY team.

This complaint is one of the most ridiculous ones I heard.

We know there are dysfunctions. And yes, the 2 at the top are the biggest part of it.

I've never once posted OTAs are a waste of time. That's a ridiculous thing to say.

In today's NFL there is such limited time teams are allowed to practice compared to decades ago due to CBA. Every practice is crucial

Hmmmm.....not sure why they'd be tinkering with what worked 12 months earlier. But, like I said, when your winning it's hard to argue against their decision makers

I mean, this is a cheap gimmick attempting to build culture. It's play stuff. Not serious. Slacker mentality, like McCarthy smashing watermelons.

How does this impact their GameDay performances. This is truly stupid. They can all do this in the Dak yard, or whatever else
I'm not too worried about it. Anything new to humanize or non-football reward the players can be called a gimmick. Even taking the entire team out to dinner.

Didn't the Cowboys players play dominoes and cards in the locker room back in the day, perhaps even in the present? Should we should just un-shackle the players before rowing the war boat to victory?

Cowboys Pro Bowl LG Tyler Smith said new head coach Brian Schottenheimer took the team to play paintball on the first day of optional team activities. “I thought that was a crazy thing. That’s never happened before. I thought that was really cool to start things off on a fun note. … The guys were going crazy. It was fun.”

Who was the best?

“Markquese Bell. Oh my God. Oh my God. Markquese Bell could probably go to SEAL Team 6. I’m not gonna lie, the way he be paintballing, Bell, for sure.”

Let the eagles challenge us in paintball! I dare them!!

Don’t know how taking the team to play paintball on the first day of OTA’s is going to help build a great team. What’s next, taking the team to Disneyland the first day of training camp?

Wouldn't expect anything different from this clown-show.

Building a team isn’t just about football.
Don’t see where taking the team to play paintball on the first day of OTA’s and having players play ping pong is a recipe for building a great team. Training camp might be like attending Club Med. :oldcouple: This wasn’t the Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson approach. OTA’s is suppose to be about football.

Could be Schotty’s way of trying to get players to
attend voluntary OTA’s. After paintball he could take the players for an afternoon of skeet shooting. I told my wife once that me and a friend were going skeet shooting. She told me not to bring any home because she didn’t know how to cook skeet.

Every decision the Eagles make is genius
Every decision the Cowboys make is stupid

So much for critical thinking.

Jimmy made lots of player friendly “fun” decisions to build camaraderie and relationships. You just don’t remember or choose not to.
