Bengals release Germaine Pratt - LB

Is he an Eberflus type of LB, its one thing to try and be a LB whisper with talent that has underperformed and under contract in Dallas already its another to pick up a guy that may not fit the Eberflus mold. But what do I know I guess a LB is a LB and they can be interchanged like Mr. Potato head parts.
Hahaha

Not that it's a definitive since it is PFF, but they ranked Pratt at a 70.1/Run defense grade/ranked 63rd (overall graded 60/110th ranked) vs Kendricks got 78.3/Run defense grade/ranked 33rd (overall graded 72/27th ranked). So if this is a need, just go get Kendricks cheap vs Pratt who isn't an improvement
I’d be fine with Kendricks too, but Kendricks is 4 years older and a lot lighter. I’m looking for a more physical presence. I had no issue with Kendricks on a cheap one year deal if they brought him back but I’m guessing they thought he was aging out and that his best years were behind him at this point. Plus last year he was in a defense he knew and was in for years

He's an average player, nothing special. We know our owners are cheap, they aren't paying much for a guy who really doesn't add a lot.
I love these type of comments. They are cheap. Then I like the next type that says they are dumb and pay too much

If he requested a trade he wants to go to a SB contender or at least an NFC or AFC championship game. That doesn't leave him many choices but Dallas ain't one of them.
Why not Dallas? They are allowed to be a contender.

Everyone is allowed to be a contender but let's not kid ourselves. There are really only about 8 true contenders.
Dam just noticed there are a lot of first round QBs here.

Chiefs
Bills
Ravens
Rams
Lions
Eagles
Commanders
Packers
49ers

They won the East just 2 years ago.
You mean they won the NFC least. The were the best of 4 bad teams in that division and then went out and got torched by a 7th seed team. They didn’t just sort of lose, they got whipped so bad that the opponent was pulling starters when the 3rd quarter started.

The Bengals are taking the studs-and-duds roster building philosophy to the extreme.

Pratt's a pretty average player, but you should take all the average players you can get when your defense is Swiss cheese. I'm not a Bengals insider or anything, but he seems like exactly the kind of mid-cost defensive veteran they need to be retaining while their offense eats up all the cap dollars.

They have a flaw in that is we already have sandborn that dudes already here he's already been signed we also signed Murray we also drafted James we also still have Clark and a host of others like Leifu I mean we forgetting that we actually have enough linebackers right now but corner is a bigger need in my opinion maybe even a tight end would be a better addition but linebacker people have concerns I do not I think it's going to be a battle but with the new coaching staff particularly the linebacker whisperer and Matt Eberfleus I think he's got his room that he can choose from right now..
I don’t see the need or who we should cut to make room for him. With sand born you don’t need him and as you said, we have sanborn already. I could see adding a cb if the young guys aren’t playing well in camp but don’t see many other signings happening barring an injury

I don't agree very often but I definitely have already said that in this thread and I definitely agree this guy is unnecessary it's redundancy if people don't see that it's insane it's like saying we should have got Nick Chubb yes Nick Chubb probably would have been a better choice had we not already got a free agent running back in Sanders and Williams and the draft we drafted two it kind of makes that unnecessary and redundancy I get it nick Chubb still has the potential to be better than either one of them but you don't know how he's gonna be the Cowboys maybe should have brought him in instead of the other two but it's hindsight..

You're right that brings us back to corner corner would be the number one necessary need that would not be redundant because they don't have a veteran on this team that can replace digs until he gets back and we then we got to worry about is the rookie ready is he ready for the NFL not just his injury and we're still waiting on Butler and Carson just had his shoulder cleaned I mean I'm trying to figure out all these threads and really it should just be what corners should we bring in...

He's a guy you look at if a guy gets hurt in camp. But not before.
Or available you know be right before the season starts or in season but yeah if he stays available he would be a guy you'd look at later but he's too redundant and unnecessary right now in my opinion..
