Cowboys to work out veteran OT George Fant

I think they’re looking for some veteran insurance policies to shore up a few positions they may be less comfortable with.

Time to Waletsgo of Matt. That experiment hasn’t worked out.

And I think they may have a handshake deal in place for Stephon Gilmore to return to shore up the cornerback depth chart until everyone gets healthy.

Anything that keeps knocking Waletzko down on the depth chart is good with me. This team seemed to have gone from a "churn the bottom of the depth chart" mentality to a "freeze the bottom of the depth chart" mentality over the last number of years

The Dallas Cowboys have a habit of stockpiling offensive linemen, so the team will continue that trend by working out a veteran with 75 games of starting experience following mandatory minicamp.

The Dallas Cowboys have made a habit of stockpiling offensive linemen throughout the years, and it has paid off with some of the most impressive units in the NFL throughout the years. This season, they are doing it again.

Following the conclusion of mandatory minicamp, the team is looking to add bodies for training camp that can help put in some solid reps and potentially surprise the coaching staff enough to earn a spot on the roster.

Churn baby churn.

Same here. The guy is too tall, too awkward, and not strong enough. Three years hasn’t changed that.

I hope they do sign Fant. He’s a good athlete that’s improved during his transition from basketball to football and has been solid when he’s played.

I think he’d make a good swing tackle option and a fallback option if Guyton flames out.

Elevate the level competing in camp. Strong move when putting slots on a microscope.

Fant would push Asim Richards and Matt Waletzko, who has been injured for three seasons but came in with some credability.

It starts there otherwise.

If Fant is brought to Camp he would be a welcomed addition as a measuring stick of where young guys like Asim, Nathan, and Cornelius are. It would be great if Coach Riley n Adams were able to develop young backup OTs because it's been a while.

Maybe they want a veteran to teach the young guys some stuff but it sure seams like the OL is set. I would think the only competition is at RT. They drafted a lot of OL. It could be that the rookies need time to build strength and it’s a long season so if you get 4-8 games out of a vet, that’s a couple months the rookies can grow and it would be nice if they only have to play half a season the first year.

We still don’t know if Guyton can even play yet so it makes sense

He played last year, he will play this year....those are facts..

so yeah, he can play,

maybe you needed to add a word or two, can he play at a high level? does he take a leap?

I say he does because the only thing that looked like a failure last year was fans with expectations that a man was going to switch from right tackle to left tackle and be great as a rookie at one of the hardest positions in football...

Yes, he struggled and I think people are exaggerating on how bad he looked... being pulled in and out he lost confidence he had injuries, and I don't think he had the best tutors either..

I mean the offensive staff didn't seem very creative the scheme was outdated, and the offensive line coaches didn't seem interested in actually teaching. I mean Terrance Steele hasn't made much improvements the last couple years after his injury either, also the TEs seemed to struggle in blocking,
and I'm sitting around thinking maybe it's not just the players,
yes he was a rookie yes he struggled but the man in my opinion while already Make progress into his second year of development he looks like a hard working guy all the reports say he comes into practice he was early last year coming in from college he looks like he's actually put on some muscle lost some body fat this year, I mean the man seems dedicated, so I would say that he will play, he can play but will he play good enough to keep his starting role, I don't know...

This is a swing tackle insurance policy the Cowboys are well known for wanting a veteran swing at their offensive line positions they done it with Jason Peters and Edoga and other guys...

It nothing more nothing less this is not threatening guidance job...IMO

Robert Jones left practice with an injury. But I have not seen what it was, or how severe.
Yeah but he's a guard and we have about 15 guards we don't have enough tackles and that's why they're bringing in more and they probably need to bring in even more than that I'm all for giving some of these young tackles an opportunity but we better have some insurance.....

Let me be clear I still have PTSD from the Atlanta game where they just left old Chaz Green by himself I don't know 6 sacks later it took them to pull him the backup wasn't much better but Jeez Louise ,you leave a guy in there that couldn't stop a trash can...

So we can use some veteran presence in that room,

We cannot allow that to happen we're coming out of the gate with a tough schedule so we better have someone ready to be pushed into the 2nd quarter if needed and finished the game you can't lose the game because you didn't have a plan at tackle, if you're young guys or Terrence Steele starts choking again....

If I know one thing that's been pretty steady with the Eagles is their defensive line in their pass rush I don't know about the rest of their team this year how they're going to do as far as their record goes I do know this they'll be bringing the heat against those tackles they're going to test us early and often because they don't want our run game or our quarterback to even feel comfortable from a snap 1...

So, you better have a plan if they look overwhelmed...
