AS: Freak Alert As Cowboys Edge Rusher Hits Saquon-Level Speed After Knee Surgery

Most of the time, you’re right, especially when it’s “so-and-so is in the best shape of his life.” But this is actually notable, especially after ACL surgery.
It's not terrible news, sure. But this time of year we can tend to overhype.

Straight speed is one of the EASIEST things for injured and rehab. Plant and turn, lock and push....will be more important for him. Let's hope it goes just as well!

I hear you.

If Sam Williams is able to garnish 8 - 10 sacks this year, I'm sure he will try to get as much money from anyone with a big new contract. But if he truly wants to remain a Dallas Cowboy, maybe this would be an opportunity to resign him to an averagely priced contract to where both parties would be comfortable with? We need to try to keep some of our young talent, especially at key positions.

Best bet is to franchise him if it comes to it. He needs to prove he has a good head on his shoulders and is about the game. No way would I lock him up long term, unless the contract is built with an easy out.

I’m not about to get all juiced up over Sam Williams. This is a make or break season for him. His play has been up and down with a number of penalties.

He'd have to have a crazy season to even consider tagging him. Too much money for sure. I dont see that happening.

Oh, I know you can say loaded, but you are the eternal optimist. Some of us like to have a least a little objectivity and recognize that things may not turn out like we hope they will.

For what it's worth, I like the group. I think it has the potential to be one of the strengths of the team. But all it is is potential for now. Parsons and Fowler are the only proven players, and Fowler's career has fluctuated.
Of course, you like the group we have a ton of newcomers and players coming back thar were on the injured list last year. We will definitely be better than last year and could be one of the best in the league.

Brother, I agree with your physical assessment on Sam Williams, but if he shows up this season and executes well, why wouldn't the Cowboys try to keep him for more years? He is young, talented and exactly the type of productive DE that our defense needs. It would not be smart to groom him and let him go perform for someone else.
AC I think the real question is how much are you willing to pay him? Keep in mind you will franchise tag in your back pocket but you just drafted a pass rusher in the 2nd round who is supposed to be pretty darn good. Tough question .........

Not gonna happen AC.

This front office doesn’t proactively sign anyone.

They take massive swings on great talent with problems in the second round.

Invest time in them.

They have an amazing year and leave.

We have seen it before with Gregory.

They don’t care that Jerry took a chance.

Only person I’ve seen give Jerry a discount because of his actions is Tyron Smith.

Just my opinion. But even if Williams has a big year. He gone.

Yeah kind of agree, but I think making the most of his opportunities and getting in the vicinity of 10 sacks might could do it.

As much as I wouldn't want to take the hit, one season wouldn't be enough for me to commit long term. It might be unfair but I think hes a mental midget, at least until proven otherwise. If he could replicate a great season and proved to be reliable id consider long term.

Of course I dont know the franchise cost at DE and I acknowledge that may be prohibitive. I think transition tag nets a 2nd, and if so that may be an ideal option.

Anyhow, we are way ahead of ourselves and have invented an ideal problem to have lol.

Think it's like 25mil. Thats too much imo unless he has an unreal season.

Based solely on potential, this team looks as well-stocked at outside pass rushers as I can remember.
Agreed, wouldn't mind packaging one of our edge guys for a decent DT.
