I expect the coaching staff to be top notch. Their salaries don’t count towards the salary cap so owners should strive for the best and the fans should expect nothing less. Coaching can make a HUGE difference in how a team performs don’t think it doesn’t for a second.

Coaching in football is massive.

Anyone who disagrees with that doesn’t understand the game. At all.

Switzer won a SB because Jimmy’s coaching stuck with the players 2 years after he left.

Look at what 10 years of Garrett did. Players were actually speaking like him in their pressers.

This is the NFL. Everyone selects from the same pool. Coaching is VERY important.

I loved the Pickens move....had no issue whatsoever with the draft but the i and many others know that the HC position wasnt vetted properly. IE , nobody else really interviewed , so we're skeptical

And the FAs are mostly former busts or Jags......we just want to see a better effort in building a better roster.

We should see a natural bump in production from Guyton going into his second year. Anything more is icing on the cake. I can see him developing into an above average T this season, maybe better. I'm really curious to see how the interior develops. Lots of power and athleticism in the trenches. Could be the best IOL group in the league by the end of the year.

Are you kidding? The best golfers in the world all have swing coaches, putting coaches, and sports psychologists. In football, it’s no different. A coach who sees what players do well and why they lose blocks and can coach the fundamentals and get into the heads of players to coach them the way they need it can make a huge difference. Coaching a scheme that best fits your personnel makes a big difference too. The OC may have the run plays he wants to run, but if he has a good OL coach, he doesn’t tell the coach how it’s blocked; the OL coach will teach the man and combo blocks based on the strengths of each player.

I am getting a lot of responses to my comment, some agree, other don't.

But I like the golf analogy. Yes, every pro golfer has a swing coach, and other assistants to help get the most out of the golfers they support. I have no doubt that coaches can help raw talents. But my point was more to the effect that a coach, no matter how good, is not going to turn me into Tiger Woods no matter how much he coaches me.

Tiger has had a bunch of swing coaches over the years. Those same coaches have also coached other golfers but none of those coaches changed any of those other golfers into Tiger Woods. I said we expect too much from coaches, and by that I meant we expect new coaches to turn players into all-pros and that, I think, is not possible in most cases.

Of course some coaches can motivate players to be their best. But that is not what I was referring to in my comment.

Troy Aikman will tell you otherwise. Norv Turner made a huge difference over David Shula for that offense.

I get this, but I was referring coaching individual players to perform better rather than coaching an offense or defensive game plan or scheme. I have no doubt that bad coaches can hurt a teams performance much more than good coaches can help.

To be clear, my comments was more about the expectations that just changing coaches is going to turn the Cowboys from a 7-10 team to a playoff contender. I think we can expect coaching to make some improvements, although it remains to be seen if that will be true in Dallas. I think the expectation that we will see a dramatic difference is asking too much.

If the Cowboys are going to be a better team then certain players will have to improve starting with Dak. But we also need improvement from Guyon, Steele, Ferguson, the RBs, and whoever takes over for Zack Martin has to be better than Zack was last year. On defense we need Mazi to play better and the backup CBs and LBs to at least hold their own until the regulars return.

Agree. But a blocking scheme can fit some guys better than others. But talent is the mist important thing for any player
