BTB: Why the Dallas Cowboys are Firmly in the Mix for NFCE Crown

...Im doubling down on it. Dont know if THIS is the year. But its going to be a good one.
We need to get either Breece Hall or Kenneth Walker if Blue can't win the starting job in Training Camp.

The RB room is trash.

We need a reliable running game.

Right.

But you can also speed up the process and I think they're trying to do that. Because, like I said, there's a window right now for some of our core, star veteran players.

Hopefully Jerry and McClay realize that window is right now. A few more good pieces and they could be dominant. Just a few more solid adds, likely preseason...or shortly after.

I think they need veterans similar to what we added with Hankins. They're going to wait and see though. I think more is to come and they also think now is sort of a window opening.
What window lol? How did Dak win all those games in 2016 and then sucked in the play offs?

He's always been what he is, no progress at all. A steal of a 4th Rd pick but no SB material. So why will it be different this season?

We’ll find out after week four or five whether we’re firmly in the mix. It usually takes about four or five games to figure out what kind of team you have. Anything less than three wins after week five and we’re in trouble.

I don’t think we are remotely close but if by some miracle they are, whoop de do…..they’re not sniffing a playoff run much less a SB. Blind homers are the only fans who can’t see this.

Take notes, Spagnola, and fellow "homer's." If you're going to write from a homer's perspective, this is how you do it.

At present moment, nobody seems to believe in the Cowboys, but they should. According to DraftKings sportsbook, the Cowboys are +190 to reach the playoffs, with only three other NFC teams below them. They’re also the odds-on favorite to finish third in the NFC East, well behind both the Eagles and Commanders when it comes to their odds to win the division.

Dak Prescott’s return is huge

People have forgotten just how good the Cowboys are when Dak Prescott is under center. Specifically looking at divisional games, Prescott is 9-4 against the Eagles, 11-2 against the Commanders, and 13-2 against the Giants. Prescott’s only loss to Washington during the Mike McCarthy era was an odd regular-season finale that felt like the team went through the motions, while the quarterback hasn’t lost to the Giants since his rookie year.

Dallas will contend for the NFC East this season these coaches are going to have this team ready to play week in and week out.I will be shocked if this offense doesn't become potent pretty quick this season. They are going to be able to throw the ball and run the ball. The defense looks improved overall.

Same. It's going to at least be fun to watch.

I think they have legit, young talent though. I mean, aside from Unc.
These coaches need to try to make things easy for Unc.If Dallas can establish the run , play action should be what the doctor ordered to keep Prescott ultra calm when it really matters. Then he can throw to these top receivers he has who can take it to house at any time.

Hey Homie................

I mean Unc can play, he's just not young anymore in NFL years.

I think the Cowboys are on the right track to improve their performances vs. some of the NFL's better teams. Whether that translates to improving enough to win a conference championship or not is likely anyone's guess. If the Cowboys FO continues to display being more proactive in the season yet to come, it might conceivably lead to a championship experience. It seems fairly possible, imho.

I have seen Dak look great ,I think with Pickens on board he won't be asked to throw in to as many extremely tight windows.Resulting in tipped balls and interceptions. If this run game gets rolling Dak will have receivers open to throw to.Coaches need to make things easier for Prescott with play action and motion. Dak seems to have better results when he is not asked to do too much .

The team has been built to compete in the division. They need to make it more competitive overall. I think that's what they are trying to do. You can see that with additions like Pickens, Blue, Revel. I'd say the two veterans are great depth. But we need to have solid competition at the RB1 and RB2 spots.

That said, I'd like to see them add some playmakers on defense. Or hopefully guys like Mukuamu and Thomas step up.

As far as Dak, truth be told, our receivers have been largely shut down in the playoffs. Mike McCarthy could never find a way to get Dak over the hump. The way we schemed our WRs was a big problem. We could never get separation.

I'm hoping this new regime will help with that. The play-calling has been pretty much the same stale scheme since Garrett. They tried the Texas Toast Offense, but they really didn't implement any sort of overhaul to make it actually a WCO.

IMO., Dak would be better at that. And with the distraction of Zeke now finally gone for good, we hope, Dak has new weapons.

Of those weapons, I think Pickens helps him the most.

Dak can establish the pass to set up the run. I think it's important to realize that, sure, you may want to run the ball. But this is a pass to run type of team..

I'm not going to bag on Dak until I see him with our new WR duo and a legit running game.

Yes…the Cowboys have always been talked about as having potential…the problem is that it has always remained unrealized.
There in an inherent problem within the Dallas organization when teams that were once doormats in the NFL have eclipsed the Cowboys, who don’t lack talent themselves; the lone constant here is Jerry Jones.

They need to get serious about winning soon.

People can say what they want. We are currently in a window period.

If Dak is signed the next 3 years, then the next 3 years is your window.

We'll see how all-in they go on Dak. They may be afraid to roll the dice on upgrading the roster more because they're thinking in the back of their minds, well, what if he gets hurt again?

That's a legitimate concern, but you should still give him all the weapons he needs, and I think they are trying to do that between Pickens, Booker, Blue etcetera.

Right.

There are nine other NFC teams with larger windows... :muttley:
