The Dallas Cowboys social media universe hit the panic button on Wednesday when a clip of NFL insider Albert Breer discussing one of the team’s top rookies went viral.

During an episode of the MMQB, Breer and analyst Conor Orr discussed the Cowboys and during a segment going over the talent on the roster, they touched on third-round rookie cornerback, Shavon Revel Jr.

In that moment, Breer made a comment about Revel Jr.’s health that caught some fans by surprise.

“(Revel) is really interesting, it doesn't always work out, I know it's the easy thing to do, to sometimes pluck the injured guy,” Breer said. "And he had a little bit of a setback with his knee.”

Reading his full comments I now understand the confusion but also think people jumped to the wrong conclusion. In retrospect, he could have used another word than "setback" which implied some thing went wrong with his recovery. But seeing his comments I now understand he was talking about when the injury occurred. Bad choice of words but no one is perfect.

They do that al the time actually.
Sign play X, he sucks ... Philly signs player X ... Jerry is an idiot for not signing him ...

Draft play Z, he sucks , because they did not draft the player he wanted, or the player Philly took ...

We will see what his real status is come the start of TC. If he does not start on PUP, it is a good sign. Even if he is off on the sidelines doing work the 1st week or so.
But would not like it if he did start on PUP. Even sometimes they do that for a conditioning thing, for a week.

That and they want clicks on their "story".

....who cares what those peeps say anyways. Better off coming here.. lol.

I have the same high hopes for Revel as everyone else.

Although I don’t value the corner position nearly as much as our leader with the proven winning formula of building from the outside in, and wouldn’t mind ending up in a spot where they can get out of the Diggs deal and also let Bland walk….then investing the savings in the DLine. Yeah, and maybe Jerry sells the team just after I hit the lottery.

History is not on their side. How many times has there been a player who ‘would have been a first rounder if not for (fill in the blank)’ and it didn’t end up working out?

Journalists have a duty to be perfect in situations like this one. Unfortunately, most of them aren’t.

In a passing league, you don’t value the CB position?

Maybe try reading and comprehending before going with the facepalm emoji.
“Although I don’t value the corner position nearly as much as our leader…”

My reading comprehension is fine but obviously, yours isn’t.

Not as much as the powers that be in Dallas apparently do.

I get your point, but I feel as though top DL play will make meh corners into good/serviceable ones much more easily than the opposite. The elite ones can’t cover all day.

Look at the four SB losses by Mahomes and Brady. They were all about heavy pressure while rushing only four. I couldn’t name a single corner on any of those teams.

Point being…I’d invest up front first and foremost, which also means being able to draft capable corners on rookie deals. Revel and a guy like Carson emerging could allow that to happen, but I doubt they go that route. Jerry likes his corners.

I totally agree with you about building from the trenches out. Can’t win being weak up the middle. But with QB’s like Mahomes, and a few others you’ve got to be good in the secondary as well.

Just like in every other job. We try to get things right, but we're reporting every day and get things wrong from time to time. Good journalists always correct themselves, though.

It always amuses me when someone points out a small grammatical mistake in a story and acts like we don't correct hundreds to thousands of grammatical errors every week.

Ther real question is, who do we turn to for an honest appraisal of a Cowboys player's status?

It's not Jerry.

National sports journalists are covering 32 teams in the NFL. They are not going to have the detailed information on a specific player and sometimes they make assumptions that turnout wrong.

In other cases it is a miscommunication.

However, this new article didn't do much to reassure fans:

"With that being said, as long as Revel Jr. is ready to play at any point of the 2025 NFL season, it’ll be a win for the Cowboys."

If Revel doesn't get any work done during the preseason, including game participation, then I don't see how a rookie CB can make any positive impact.

Revel desperately needs a healthy training camp if he is to make any significant impact this season. My gut feeling is that we won't see him this season.

Case and point the two Giants teams that beat the undefeated 07 Patriots. Then again a few years later. The Giants won because of the pressure they brought from the DLine. Not because of the CB play
