Absolutely. This new Netflix doc dropping around the same time he revealed he beat cancer? Seems like nothing more than a PR parade. There's no way Jerry can keep a secret like that for 15 years and with it being Jerry, no idea how accurate it is. Also, the 90s teams were great, I enjoyed them in real time growing up. But 30 years later? Not interested in living in nostalgia, as that is a form of depression to long for "better times".

Plus, those teams have been documented to death. I've read 2 books on them and watched so much. I doubt this reveals anything new. It will also be depressing because of how far we are from that success, 100% directly to the man they are showcasing on the cover photo.

Exactly my point - did Jerry really have melanoma or is he just saying he did for attention? Channel 4 news here in north Texas reported last week that Jerry was also claiming to have had a hip replacement at some point in the last 10 years. That certainly would not have been easily hidden, so is everything he is saying just a massive pile of BS?

Like you said, 'with it being Jerry, no idea how accurate it is'.

Aside from Jerry's medical issues, he's a terrible GM over the last 30 years. It takes cohesiveness to win chips. Not one guy on high , especially when he owns the team too. Hire a freaking GM and assistant GM. Teamwork.

My personal belief is that the release of the cancer thing, assuming it's even true, was done solely for attention. Think about it - Jerry knows that everyone in north Texas hates his guts, maybe even the entire state. So he decides to throw something out there in the Netflix doc to garner some sympathy, say something alarming and unexpected that will deflect the attention away from him being a crap owner and GM. It certainly worked with some here on CZ.

It angers me more and more as I watch. To think where it all began and to where they are now. The shift away from accountability and toughness to coddling and entertainment. They've become comfortable being the most valuable franchise and resting on the profits. Sure there were a few close calls with flirting with on field success. But it just seems like dumb luck at this point. It's become hard to be a fan of this team.

The netflix group that made this are excellent at what they do so it’s no surprise that it’s getting a lot of high marks from critics.

I doubt I watch it but I won’t rule it out simply because i love high quality documentaries.

My girlfriend (Lions fan from Detroit) only started really following football a couple of years ago and loves the documentary. I'm only 5 episodes in and the coverage of the rise of the dynasty was excellent.

I’ve watched 6 episodes so far and really enjoy it. Man I loved those Dynasty years. Wish it would have discussed more about the players drafted with the Herschel trade.

Also shows how truly Emmitt was underrated by people even lots of Dallas fans.

I'm enjoying watching the series I don't let my dislike for Jerry ruin it for me there's always something you can learn.
And I learned that Jerry was a weak soft player at Arkansas and needed Jimmy back then to toughen him up and show him the way to make him perform his best.
Later on it was proved again that Jerry needed Jimmy to build the team run the players and get the best out of them.
The series also showed the amount of leadership and commitment needed to win a Super bowl .
The players and coaches back then had such a commitment to winning a Super bowl they were not to be denied.
In comparison now we have absolutely no leadership and winning a Super bowl is not even a priority all the players care about is their contracts and the money.
Jerry needed Jimmy like Mick Jagger needs Keith Richards the difference is Mick is smart enough to know that.
Jerry will settle on a weaker softer coach and follow the line of least resistance just so he can get all the credit.
As a result I will never see another Super bowl win by the Cowboys in my lifetime

Football has regressed dramatically.

Amen brother they could learn a lot from watching real football players who cared about winning a Super bowl.
I doubt this group now could stay off their phones long enough and social media to get through it.

That series if nothing else shows the amount of leadership and commitment needed to win a Super bowl and emphasizes the fact that we are nowhere close we have no leaders on this team that care about winning a Super bowl like those old players did .

It’s bittersweet. Not all the way through it, but it reinforces how special that group was.

After the rough 80’s, the 90’s were beyond special.

100% focus on dedication and winning and dominating.

Tiers above and rarified air of where we were and where other teams will maybe sniff or even dream of.

Over the years, we’ve heard Emmitt being minimized by the line or Troy wasn’t that special or Haley wasn’t all that or blah blah blah.

This group really showed you that was all nonsense! They dominated with a dynasty and rings! These players are arguably the best to ever play their positions!

Now, you got guys who can barely win a playoff game every three years.

It’s like Mount Rushmore vs. a child’s diorama.

That era was glorious!

I won't watch and it is strictly because of Jerry. Aside from being a vomit inducing narcissist, the timing of his cancer announcement is very suspect. Why wait until a Netflix doc to make something like that public? Was it because he knew a larger audience would see it and everyone would be talking? The timing raises way too many questions.

If the doc was solely about the 90's team without Jerry being front and center I might watch it, but knowing that it's probably 95% Jerry I will pass. Screw Jerry.

Most teams don't blame the GM after every loss. That weird foolishness only happens with the Cowboys. Its become a sport in of itself

JJ team has two last place finishes since 2002
JJ team won 186 games for 8th best over a 20 season stretch
JJ team won 7 division titles over a 20 season stretch and made 9 playoff appearances and the division went thru his team 70-75 percent of those years
JJ team twice had the #1 seed in his conference twice
JJ drafted 35 pro bowl players since 2003
JJ drafted many All Pro players during that stretch
JJ drafted three R.O.Y players(Zeke deserved a share)

Take away the perception of JJ and you would see that JJ has actually been a top 10 GM if not 5-7 over a 20 season stretch. JJ downfall has been in his hiring of coaches(Wade, Garrett) and the filling out of those staffs(Garrett OC, Ryan, Kiffin) which I believe prevented the Cowboys from having more success from 2006-2013. Criminal how much talent those teams had with nothing to show for it. But the great Jerry West had the most talented team in basketball from 1996-1998 and he left championships on the table because the head coaching decision he stuck with(Del Harris)

Would he get fired? Depends on the fanbase. They would build a statue of him in Detroit with his resume the past 20 seasons

The Cowboys fanbase is spoiled and entitled and the media is hellbent on playing gotcha. Their entire objected is to spread negativity.

I remember everything about those teams. Dont need a refresher with Jerry’s spin on things.

If he had anything at all to do with building those teams I’d like to know why he hasn’t come remotely close since. The fact is that he didn’t and anyone who says he did is calling Johnson a complete liar, which I doubt is the case.

Jimmy has a huge ego as well, but not to where he would deny Jerry his credit if due. Jerry bought the team. Great. A lot of people have money. Not many can build an NFL dynasty.

Y’all’s hate is preventing you from enjoying a really good documentary. A prime igniter of ignorance.
