That crossed my mind. My first question was…why now?

It was 15 years ago.

I fully believe he is slime enough to pull that but we will never know.
 
I’ve no real interest in watching it. I was very young during those years and really didn’t start following the team until 2001-2002 so I missed the glory years. My Dad is a huge fan and got to watch Rodger and company and then The Triplets. Must’ve been nice.

Watching film about those years just makes me sad that I haven’t been able to see the same level of success while being a fan.

More power to those of you who enjoy it, though.
 
Jerry is one of the most driven people ever, and definitely one of the most insecure and self-destructive.

He destroys everything he builds.

And I learned that Jerry was a weak soft player at Arkansas and needed Jimmy back then to toughen him up and show him the way to make him perform his best.
Later on it was proved again that Jerry needed Jimmy to build the team run the players and get the best out of them.
The series also showed the amount of leadership and commitment needed to win a Super bowl .
The players and coaches back then had such a commitment to winning a Super bowl they were not to be denied.
In comparison now we have absolutely no leadership and winning a Super bowl is not even a priority all the players care about is their contracts and the money.
Jerry needed Jimmy like Mick Jagger needs Keith Richards the difference is Mick is smart enough to know that.
Jerry will settle on a weaker softer coach and follow the line of least resistance just so he can get all the credit.
As a result I will never see another Super bowl win by the Cowboys in my lifetime

I think its been proven Jimmy had alot to do with leaving also, the hard part is most owners can do what they need to do for the better of their team. Jerry has proven time and time again he puts his needs well above the team and the Fans, he really doesn't even hide it now.
 
I binged the first five segments last night, and found it highly entertaining and well done.

At age 64, having followed the team since 1970, I remember the recounted events very well from a fan's perspective. That said, I enjoyed the recollections and previously unheard (at least by me) "inside stories" from a variety of commentators in the greater Cowboys universe.

My three sons, avid Cowboys fans born between 1994-1996, are really into the series as well, catching up on a lot of history they weren't around to experience firsthand, and sparking some fun conversation among the four of us.

I found it interesting that Jerry almost purchased the Chargers! But, his Dad advised him against dealing with the mob to get the money!! Damn you Jerry's Dad!! :muttley:
 
I broke down and decided to watch it, on episode three now. It is pretty good, if nothing else to relive the glory days.

Maybe I'm getting old, but watching Jerry with those guys did numb some of my hate. His first decade or so in the league he really was a maverick, a force to be reckoned with.

Its a shame the same ego that drove him to those levels of greatness appears to have destroyed us the last couple decades +. Jerry had an opportunity to become a truly beloved figure for Cowboys nation. Instead he's made himself the villain.

It was also telling how he wouldn't pay Emmitt due to not "turning the corner" financially. Then he used his Nike etc deals to fund the rest of the team. I look at that and wonder how much he holds back on spending without a new lever to pull. I can't blame cap when we can push money into void years and manipulate it in other ways.
 
Watching the first four eps was sort of a tradeoff for me. Parts from February 1989, including the Saturday Night Massacre, through January 1994, elicited quite a bit of nostalgia. But interspersed throughout, there was always the narcissist reminding us all where the buck stops.

The real tragedy, at least in my eyes, is that football excellence was never the standard or the end game for this man, this family. Hell, it's not even on the list. Several times, within this series as well as other instances, Jerry made it clear that his dream was to own a football franchise so he could ultimately tap into its marketing potential and take it places no one dreamed possible. The man is obviously an absolute beast when it comes to the business. It's just unfortunate the football club we have loved had to be taken hostage in the process.

All the success the Cowboys enjoyed in the early-to-mid nineties was but a stepping stone to the Jones family. Those times were a means to an end in building their empire. In other words, it's not a case of empire + contendership. So many moments in the documentary reinforce this. Countless actions over time as well.
