Jerry and Irvin on Parsons contract

Micah won't sit out. He'll just tell the team he is not negotiating a long term deal during the 2025 season. Then in the offseason inform them that he never intends to sign a long term deal with the Cowboys and is willing to play under the tag for $26.5MM guaranteed in 2026, then a potential projected $31MM for 2027. Earn a cool $83MM over 3yrs and hit free agency at 29 and break the bank. He'd make QB money in career earnings that way and still be young enough to pursue a SB ring.

The only thing Jerry can do at that point is try to trade him or be happy with the 3rd round comp pick the team will get once Parsons leaves in free agency.

Micah can't really lose in this scenario despite what his detractors think.
Significant injury completely could derail this plan. And collecting 83m over 3 years with no guarantee is a whole lot different than a guaranteed contract that will get you close to $200 million.

At 29 he could also have a lot of wear and tear....he will have been in the league 7 years. He isn't a big guy so he might get beat down a bit by then.

So, earning $83m check by check over the next three years isn't awful by any stretch, but it pales in comparison.

In the end the Cowboys will be the loser unless we take in a slew of #1 draft picks. Regardless our defense will suk this year without him.
It could suck even with him. DT and CB are huge question marks and I am not 100% sold on the safety play and LBs.

You don’t get it.

I don’t take issue with the fact that he eventually pays them.

I take issue with the way he does business and the way he treats the players throughout the process.

He’s the western villain who shoots at the feet of the stable hand and then buys him a whiskey and says no hard feelings.
His way of doing business does suck, he surely has to flex his muscles to show that he is the big bossman, but he normally pays more than market value for the team's best players.

all in.

Significant injury could derail it. Absolutely. However, franchise tag money is fully guaranteed so it isn't check by check. It is a guaranteed $83MM over 3yrs. If he doesn't get injured he will hit the market at 29 and likely get 45 to 50MM AAV with close to $200MM guaranteed.

He can only lose if he gets a significant injury as you stated. Otherwise, he would make QB money. More than any non-QB has ever seen. It literally would be the Kirk Cousins of non-QBs situation.

Honestly, this kid is in such an enviable situation. He's earned it. Good for him.

It’s amazing we still have fans who believe and support that Jethro as GM is in the best interest of Cowboys Football.
Its amazing that people still support a team and talk about a team DAILY that seems to give them absolutely no enjoyment.

Not exactly... it is 20 whatever this season, and thats it. Then next year he is slapped with the tag and it is whatever that amount is worth for that season and thats it. Then he is slapped with the tag again and it is whatever that amount is worth, and thats it.

If he blows up his knee this season, that could have long lasting impact on his future money, and the following 2 seasons... who knows?

I guess it’s difficult for you to grasp we can still enjoy watching football without believing in our team or organization.

And we enjoy discussing all of the factors surrounding it. Much like we might not support all of the directions and policies with our country but want to continue discussing the issues.

And since you didn’t answer trying to deflect I assume you do believe Jethro as GM is in the best interest of Cowboys Football.

And he could do like Dez did and refuse to play under Tag or even sit out this year. Jethro ended up caving in to Dez.

Parsons knows eventually he’s going to get paid.

If your plan is how you laid out , it’s a deadend . And it will have effects on our chemistry , culture while eventually losing a generational talent which will still cost a hefty amount under Tags.

Lousy plan IMO!! But dig in with Jethro . But even you said if he caves you won’t be happy. Sounds more and more like your issue might be more deeply seeded than just defending Jethro cause you think like him. I’d love to hear more about this .

whether Jerry is or isnt, I just dont really care to discuss a topic that has been discussed every day for the past .... however many years Ive been on these forums. I dont get excited by typing in the word Jethro.

The projected tag for next year is $26.5MM. Which is $4MM more than rhe 2025 amount. The deals that Garrett, Watt, Crosby, etc. have received will make the number jump again in 2027. Being conservative, it will likely be $30MM to $31MM in 2027.

$25MM in 2024. $26.5MM in 2026. $30MM or $31MM in 2027. All fully guaranteed. Not a bad haul at all.

Obviously the risk of injury exists. It's football. Hence why these kids want to sign extensions.

Sounds like you’re still in denial that with Jethro as GM , it isn’t in the best interest of Cowboys Football.

You can be tired of discussing while admitting it. Or own up to that’s what you believe . And argue as such.

What gets me is for someone who is so put out with discussing the topic, why are you here. There’s other threads to discuss Cowboys subjects.

And why we can only be left with you defend what he represents for Cowboys Football.

Cmon DieHard... I am fine with you telling me how foolish I am, but if your are going to repeat what I said, actually repeat what I said.

I said people will slam (as they have done) Jerry for caving and giving Michael what he wants, and they will slam him for not giving him what he wants. He will get slammed on every day of the week for being alive. I never said I WONT be happy, because I dont care what Michael gets. I am pro team and will always be pro team.If Michael gets 40 million per... it wont bother me anymore than Dak getting 60. I only care what they make in regards to how it impacts the salary cap.

What I find hilarious is how people just think teams should cave in and give players everything they want... they deserve this, they deserve that, pay the man his money, he has outperformed his contract.... blah, blah, blah.
Terry Mclauren is currently under contract. A contract he signed not all that long ago. He is currently not living up to the terms of that contract and yet nobody seems to flinch at that fact. Washington doesnt have to do anything. They can say we would like you to finish off your deal with us. At that time, we will decide if we would like to offer you a new deal that you find satisfactory.

The current CBA allows teams to exercise a 5th year team option for 1st rd draft picks. That player can want and ask for an extension. The team can agree to such an extension. If the team and player have not agreed to a new deal prior to the start of that 5th year, nowhere does the cba allow a player to say, I am not playing until you give me the new deal I want.

I personally want Jerry to 100% play hardball. Because I am worried about the LONG TERM implications of the Cowboys to continue to be held hostage by their best players. Zeke, Dak, Lamb, Martin, now Parsons........ play hard ball. Let Michael sit out 5 games... I dont care, but send a damn message to the players and agents that they are not single handedly in charge of the Dallas Cowboys.

and the projected salary cap ill go uo just like those tag numbers do.... so I dont care if it is more.

Man, there's a way to go about a contract dispute and the way Parsons has acted is not it.

Another poster talked about his body language and many jumped him that it was just a snap shot and not how he has been most the time. Man, all I've seen is him walking out late into practice, moping around in a hoodie, standing away from a lot of the team. Him walking in yesterday eating nachos before a game...just a bad look.

This all makes him look like a pouting child.

Your still making $24 million dollars this year. You have a successful social media presence and podcast - NOT because your Micah Parsons...but because you play for the Dallas Cowboys. Suck it up, help your teammates get better - look engaged with the team/coaches. They have nothing to do with whatever is going on with Jerry/your agent/yourself - that's the business side of this game. Quit letting that side affect the actual game you supposably love to play.

remind me which thread this is? Is this a thread about a players contract? If it isnt, my apologies for discussing a contract situation.

While your intentions might be honorable I’m afraid it’s not going to work on these bigger stars in the league.

Yes , for most players in the league we see very few issues. All fall in line. But we know this league is all about the star talent. And Jethro holding firm on Micah isn’t going to change that.

Reid, if we could trust that our ownership could properly evaluate talent and they truly believed Micah wasn’t a top Edge Rusher in the league and wasn’t worth top pay I’d be fine with moving on trading him.

But I’ve seen nor heard any indication that’s the case. Is this part of your argument that you don’t believe Micah is one of the top Edge rushers?

remind me which thread this is? Is this a thread about a players contract? If it isnt, my apologies for discussing a contract situation.
The thread also has Jethro’s name which the discussion is surely to also be about.

C’mon Reid. You knew coming in that he would be a big part of the discussion. You even started a thread that was merged with this one .

If he goes out in week one and God forbid suffers a career ending injury. He gets nothing more.
