This OP was created to show strength that is developing here and now, on the defensive side of ball.
The area of concern through the off season, was in the secondary and defensive tackle positional groups.
Doubt was spread like mayonnaise on french fries in Holland before a Tulip Show.
If the corners take out the #1 WR and TE, that gives the defensive line much longer to wreck an opponent's offense. This all affects attacking an opponent's running game as well. When the Dallas gears up and produces scores, it then reflects in turn-overs for Dallas and clock/field positions advantages. Game changers.
Injury concerns, the value on the sidelines and needing to return to play on the defensive side are:
LB
DeMarvion Overshown
CB Shavon Revel Jr.
DE Payton Turner
These are relevant and will add significantly in team depth of play and power in quality of play. These 3 players will help against the run and passing games of opponents.
Who presently are retained on roster for the active season roster, going into season?
Let's look at the real picture of players right now;
The biggest and strongest group are the defensive linemen. Pressure and sacks are a huge part of the Cowboys defense. It changes games around and provides lot's of game changers directly or in combination with the secondary.
Defensive end/EDGE (6)
- Micah Parsons
- Dante Fowler
- Marshawn Kneeland
- Donovan Ezeiruaku
- James Houston
- Sam Williams
Defensive tackle (5)
- Osa Odighizuwa
- Solomon Thomas
- Mazi Smith
- Jay Toia
- Perrion Winfrey
This group already is strong at getting to a quarterback. As to defensing the run, don't kid ones self, they will at the very least be a strong restricting element.
The biggest controller against opponents are the linebackers. This is a strong unit and depth to include experiences.
Most of the time, the defense will be in a package and two linebackers on the field; With the return of Overton, this will be one of the very best groups professionally.
Linebackers (5)
- Marist Liufau
- Jack Sanborn
- Kenneth Murray
- Damone Clark
- Shemar James
The OP, distractions and all, addressed the secondary and a now more current projection.
This is now how the secondary looks:
Cornerbacks (6)
- Trevon Diggs
- DaRon Bland
- Kaiir Elam
- Andrew Booth
- Zion Childress
- Caelen Carson
Safeties (4)
- Malik Hooker
- Donovan Wilson
- Juanyeh Thomas
- Markquese Bell
Gentlemen, that will become a very strong defense with no lingering board favorite ah craps lingering.
