One of the great what ifs is What if the Salary Cap had been delayed another couple of years?

We could have kept the 90's team complete for longer; by 95 we had lost so much of our depth

who knows what we could have accomplished?

It took effect before the 94 season and that offseason and the next we started losing people right and left
 
Perspective always matters.

This is a team coming off a 7-10 season that's headed to another 7-10 season under a new head coach. That doesn't change whether Micah plays or not. Rebuilding a roster - and this is only a semi-rebuild, not a full overhaul - takes some time and patience.

As such, Micah has no leverage here. Signing him or trading him to Siberia for a bevy of picks both make sense, but neither has immediate implications. There's no championship run ahead this season to be panicked over. It just doesn't matter right now.

There's also a power component to this on behalf of the owners. Salaries have gotten crazy high, and agents have gotten more and more big-headed and power-trippy. Jerry is rubbing Micah's agent's face in the poop and throwing him out in the backyard.

Jerry feels Micah welched. Micah feels Jerry is trying to squeeze him. Both are correct, but Jerry holds all the cards.

The best play here is to let this play out. Perhaps a team will flinch and offer a treasure chest of draft picks. That would be terrific. Or, things settle down and they get this deal done. That's fine, too. But time is NOT of the essence to the Cowboys on this. They made at legitimate offer, and they can wait a lot longer than Micah can.

For once, Jerry is actually playing this well.

Lawrence missed 13 games last season and 9 in 2021.
Lewis missed 10 or so in 22 and only started 8 in 23 still recovering.
You really want to give them the contracts they got?
It was time to move on!
 
The Cowboys at #3 and the Falcons at #30 are separated by less than a year average. IMO this is a bit of a non topic with the exception of maybe Pittsburgh and Washington

The guy is detrimental to any football teams organizational success.
 
I look at it the exact opposite. Sign him or trade him today. Neither is a bad option. The only thing that really hurts this team is to continue to let this play out and be an ongoing distraction and hurdle for a 1st time HC. If the Cowboys feel that Micah isnt worth what he is asking why would you not trade him to another team that will pay him? Let another team around the league sacrifice two 1st round picks and suffer the cap consequences. In theory if Micah's demands are that outrageous to where it would be a hindrance on the team then we should want to send Micah to Washington or Philly as soon as possible, right?

Also how do we know that the Cowboys have made a legitimate offer?
 
I disagree completely. The time to trade Micah would’ve been after the GB game if you felt like the roster wasn’t competitive. They re-signed (and both negotiations were also bad btw) 2/3 of their best players insinuating from a roster perspective they were more in than out. Acting like the Cowboys can afford to tread water in a middle of the pack draft range potentially is just another waste of a year. If you’re not competing then you need to be tooling up. They’re doing neither. Absolute failure from owner to roster management. Sitting around to see who blinks first is the absolute worst thing they can do so of course that’s what’s going to happen

IMO, its play that should be banned. Its form of cheating. One thing to QB sneak, another having guys push from behind.

I come to the same conclusion, This is not like the other negotiations people point to.

He isn’t playing it well.

A decision should have been made a year ago to either extend him or trade him.

This mess is not good for anything except Jerry getting attention. Makes me sick actually.

Exactly. The Cowboys have already made moves to suggest they are in win now mode. Letting this play out and accepting a 7 win season will not look good on the Cowboys front office. If Micah sits and the early losses start to come it will turn into pressure on Jerry. If the Cowboys come away with a week 1 upset over Philly thats a much different story.

.....Totally agree, been on Jerry's side from onset. I like Micah too,

You see where his values are now, $$$$$. Once the guy talked about team and championship.

I can't think of another team in the league that pushes off rookie extensions for star players like the Cowboys do. Yes it happens from time to time, but nowhere near the consistency that the Cowboys pull this BS. It puts them at a competitive disadvantage.
