Perspective always matters.

This is a team coming off a 7-10 season that's headed to another 7-10 season under a new head coach. That doesn't change whether Micah plays or not. Rebuilding a roster - and this is only a semi-rebuild, not a full overhaul - takes some time and patience.

As such, Micah has no leverage here. Signing him or trading him to Siberia for a bevy of picks both make sense, but neither has immediate implications. There's no championship run ahead this season to be panicked over. It just doesn't matter right now.

There's also a power component to this on behalf of the owners. Salaries have gotten crazy high, and agents have gotten more and more big-headed and power-trippy. Jerry is rubbing Micah's agent's face in the poop and throwing him out in the backyard.

Jerry feels Micah welched. Micah feels Jerry is trying to squeeze him. Both are correct, but Jerry holds all the cards.

The best play here is to let this play out. Perhaps a team will flinch and offer a treasure chest of draft picks. That would be terrific. Or, things settle down and they get this deal done. That's fine, too. But time is NOT of the essence to the Cowboys on this. They made at legitimate offer, and they can wait a lot longer than Micah can.

For once, Jerry is actually playing this well.
Stopped reading after that as it’s just another poor me thread based on some perceived opinion based on other haters here.

I disagree completely. The time to trade Micah would’ve been after the GB game if you felt like the roster wasn’t competitive. They re-signed (and both negotiations were also bad btw) 2/3 of their best players insinuating from a roster perspective they were more in than out. Acting like the Cowboys can afford to tread water in a middle of the pack draft range potentially is just another waste of a year. If you’re not competing then you need to be tooling up. They’re doing neither. Absolute failure from owner to roster management. Sitting around to see who blinks first is the absolute worst thing they can do so of course that’s what’s going to happen
A decision to trade or sign should have been made after year 3. At the very least before the draft. Trading him now means going a year without him or the use of the picks. Jerry had to know what the contract was gonna look at. It’s not a big secret. Every front office has a good idea what a player is gonna cost to extend. The smart teams nane those decisions in advance

I wonder if it's the agent's job to tell players to fake injuries and steal money from the team? or do they come up with that themselves? I'm guessing it's the agent.
No, I'm sure it's total coincidence this is the exact same playbook Mulugheta used with Ramsey.

Complete happenstance.

Micah only welched in Jerry's head. He never put pen to paper on anything, they never had a deal.
Maybe because I am a Texan born and raised, but a man's word has to count for something, no? You shake another mans hand you have a deal... at least the parameters.

Perhaps the don't grow them that way in Philadelphia? Perhas Micah is letting his fame and wealth get to him? Maybe he never had true integroty to know the agent works FOR HIM?

Either way, IMHO, Micah holds the primary 'blame' in a dance with notoriously bad partners.

Go Cowboys!

One thing that wasn’t really brought up about Micah’s trade request is how it was worded. He doesn’t write that, his agent does. There is very specific wording that goes into it that is vetted and PR’d to death.

In a normal “trade me” tweet, the wording will be something like “I wish I could be a Seahawk for life. I don’t really want to leave the team, but our negations have left me no choice”. Micah’s was nothing like that, it was roughly “get me off this team. I don’t want to have anything to do with the cowboys anymore.”

As always, could be wrong, but this doesn’t feel like Jerry is waiting for a midnight deal week 1. There’s a real problem going on
It's crazy things have devolved so much when Parsons was defending the team online a few months ago.

Everyone who thinks this is as easy as "Pay Micah"... Is there any limit to what you think he should be paid?

What is the number? Is it 45 million? 47? 50?

Or do you think Jerry should just hand him a blank check?
No blank check but if the number is higher than Jerry wants to pay then trade him, or at least let Micah seek a trade. That way he at least gets a real sense of what his value is to other teams.

He's a lazy toddler you want them to get rid of but also worth keeping unless the Cowboys get three 1sts?
honestly no i want him gone do to his attitude during this process. its business it not personal he's not being a leader. he's showing its about the money not the game and thats what sucks. teaching kids the wrong thing IMO

This is only a distraction to the media and the fans that let the media make it a distraction. The players on the field are gonna play in the coaches out. There are gonna coach. None of this Micah crap is gonna change how they play.
I’m sure the coaches and players will still do their jobs to the best of their abilities, but you’re telling me the players aren’t talking about what’s going on with Micah? You don’t think eberflus is coming up with two different game plans depending on if he has Micah week 1 or not?

Slave mentality right here.

The ignorance you just revealed to the world shows why fans are so oblivious to the Cowboys' real situation. Why would they believe their roster isn't competitive when they had just made it to the playoffs as the one seed? Overreacting to one game (GB) is not a smart move, but that's what you seem to be advocating. When fans like you think you know better than the people in charge, you confirm how ignorant you are of the actual situation. You don't know what you don't know, yet you act as if you know it all. Your aggressive comments, made without all the facts, are not helpful. All you are doing is satisfying your own need to hear yourself talk. The message is utter ignorance, but you are so narcissistic that you think it sounds good. The saddest thing is you're not alone. There are many ignorant fans out there. You support each other's ignorance and convince yourselves that you are right when nothing could be further from the truth.

Exactly it's not even close to the same that's what I keep trying to tell people this is not even as close parallel to any other holdouts that's happened in Dallas...

Agents give him really bad advice It's beyond optics I wasn't on any side and I know Jerry is a big problem here with the social media drama that's being created between him and the agent but this has gotten way beyond the normal holdout type situation..

I agree with you and I'm betting if he switched agents he would end up getting paid pretty quickly or if he caved and just came in and start practicing Friday getting ready for the Eagles and tells everybody he's ending his holdout and he's going to play against the Eagles all of a sudden Jerry is in the situation where he feels he wins and I guarantee the contract happens pretty quickly...
Like we have heard several times Jerry and Stephen say its not about the money its about the character and the leader ship if your going to make that kind of money. he's on a 24m contract now, show your leader ship and play put the team on your back and next year he's getting almost 50m. he's not seeing long game here. Not sure if its him or the agent. I agree if he switched agents this might get done pretty quickly. the up yours comment from a agent is not cool. now i dont know what was said to make him get that heated but takes to to tango in these things and neither side seem to want to dance.

We are in total agreement. Good post.

You never know, maybe that is happening. Maybe the agent is finding out that no one else wants to pay 45/year either. Or maybe what they're offering Jerry in trade isn't high enough yet, but with some more negotiating it will be.

I think things will heat up when Micah proves he's willing to forego 1.4 or whatever million dollars per week.

I look at it the exact opposite. Sign him or trade him today. Neither is a bad option. The only thing that really hurts this team is to continue to let this play out and be an ongoing distraction and hurdle for a 1st time HC. If the Cowboys feel that Micah isnt worth what he is asking why would you not trade him to another team that will pay him? Let another team around the league sacrifice two 1st round picks and suffer the cap consequences. In theory if Micah's demands are that outrageous to where it would be a hindrance on the team then we should want to send Micah to Washington or Philly as soon as possible, right?

Also how do we know that the Cowboys have made a legitimate offer?
It makes zero sense trading Micah this year for nothing in exchange this year.
