Well, after all that hype, he is apparently closer to the guy we saw run for 3.0 yards a carry against PSU than the guy that ran for 2k in a soft conference. Today's effort was 19 carries for 39 yards. He did score a TD but 2.0 YPC on 19(!) carries is laughable.

It's fun to check in on the rookie skill positions.

Omarion Hampton 15/48 Rushing 2/13 receiving
Emeka Egbuka 4/67 2TD receiving 1/9 rushing
Dylan Sampson 12/29 rushing 8/64 receiving
Tetairoa McMillan 5/68 receiving
Travis Hunter 6/33 receiving
DJ Giddens 12/41 rushing
Tyler Warren 7/76 receiving
Ashton Jeanty 19/38 rushing 1 TD
TreyVeon Henderson 5/27 Rushing 6/24 Receiving
Kaleb Johnson 1/-2 rushing

I'm not writing anyone off after their 1st game as a rookie
That is the correct mindset.

However, if this persists those of us who questioned whether the player was really as good as his Mountain West stats indicated are owed apologies. More than apologies from those who were insulting.

(I'm genuinely asking this because I wasn't born yet) what was Emmitt's numbers in his first game as a rookie in 1990?

wow, Warren and Tet had the best debuts out of those other rooks. I'm surprised.

It's all meaningless without discussing the offensive line (or lack thereof).

The only question I have is AJ's usage at Boise. I feel like most backs only have so many touches in them. I am no fan of Zeke but I think his OSU usage helped contribute to a shorter NFL career.

Absolutely.

It's yet another reason not to draft RBs in the first. Well, maybe two related reasons. First, the very thing that makes them candidates for the first round is the same thing that tends to shorten their NFL careers. Second, the fifth-year option is probably less valuable for a RB than for someone at any other position.
