Dak's window is closing-have to go veteran route to fix D

Dak is not a pressure and playoff QB

His “window” is closed as he har shown again and again

Trade Pickens and Diggs
Load up on picks
Pick a rd 1 QB
Rebuild
People don’t realize in the 2nd half of the 3 losses the O has 10 pts combined. Not saying it’s all Dak. He’s had a nice start. But it’s not like they are helping in crunch time.

Figure Dak has 3-4 years left of being a high-level starter. Makes zero sense to rebuild the defense with a bunch of young prospects. Either you blow it all up or try to fix your need areas with proven NFL Talent. We all know that Eberflus is on burrowed time and he isn't the sole reason why the defense is terrible, but he isn't going to survive after this season.

The first question, is who do we replace Eberflus with and what type of scheme fits this roster?

With the current players we have under contract, I see these needs:

Edge, MLB, Free Safety, Corner, NT-I think the 1st three are priority, where the last two might be more depth.

MUST sign or trade for 2 impact defenders within these three positions and try to fill out the roster with those extra picks acquired in the Parsons trade. As I have been saying for weeks, Edge players have a long, developmental curve, go get your veteran pass rusher, then it becomes easier to fill out the defense.
Alternative approach regarding your question draft a quarterback was that GB pic and insure against aging Dak. I know we need players everywhere but I'm warming to that idea. even though Dak is playing the best of his career

I can't emphasize this enough. This is not a championship team with Dak no matter what veterans are on defense. This team needs to hard rebuild and we have a great start with 4 1st round picks the next two years and the bones of a young offensive line.

That said I don't think Diggs even gets a 3rd at this point, he's low effort and slow, he's done. Pickens just won't be resigned. Lamb is the only real tradeable commodity, I would say a team might trade something for Dak but he would have to agree to it and they would have to be willing to take on his ridiculous salary, I don't see anyone doing that. We need a QB, RB, Receivers and an entire defense.

the right play would be push everything into the yr when Dak’s contract expires. Use this window to see if you can win a Championship. If it doesn’t work out, perfect time to rip it all down.

You don’t have to build an elite defense, just one who is the middle of the pack as this offense is young, talented and many players still haven’t peaked
Yep, we go for it now and if/when we start to fail, we trade any of these the players who retain any semblance of value (taking a one/two year off to reset the CAP).
Jerry you're 83, in 5 years you wont be able to appreciate being a 9-8 team battling to get the no.7 seed.

You certainly can do that with the extra picks.

But that's the problem with Jerry's myopic 'strategy', everything centers around the draft. We dont draft a QB with a view to developing him because EVERY draft pick has to hit, because we dont use Free Agency.
When we do trade, it always appears to be based on the guy's college resume, we trade for an extraordinary number of former No.1 Draft Picks.
Me thinks McClay isnt all he's cracked up to be....indeed we get more from the odd latter round picks and UFA than we do our 1st /2nd Rd picks..... ergo when we have a player that's proven (eg Pickens), and has been developed by other outfits (eg Pickens) and works in our dysfunctional set up (eg Pickens) and helps your QB to play to such a high level, you keep and add, dont subtract and hope.

They can create as much space as they want, but they have decided against it. Teams backload deals all the time to kick the can later
Yea, they can kick the can down the road, but they will pay later. The bad thing is, they won't have anything to show for it.

We don't need overpaid super stars. We need good players, with discipline, that can do their job and work together as a team.

There is no window. It closed in 2023 when both the offense and the defense was clicking.

The actual rebuilding didn't start this season, it starts next season. You can expect very few Cowboys to be resigned after the season. They will concentrate on using more players on their rookie contracts as they attempt to correct their salary cap issues.

They will most likely target the 2028 season as the season for which they can contend. The 1st round picks from 2026 and 2027 will be in their 2nd and 3rd seasons.

Per front office in hiring the correct, idea DC ...and not addressing defensive personnel properly ala 1 tech, LB, safety, ,..and trading away Parsons,
all comes to setting back this defense even further and further ....

Have to have a championship caliber defense to really have a chance at playoffs & SB ... front office has failed us annually ..!!

If he had a window it was the size of a window on an airliner.
:muttley:

Figure Dak has 3-4 years left
Window for what? Gucci bags? House rebuilds? Babies out of wedlock? 1,000 yard stare contests? Highest paid with fewest playoff wins ever? Most consecutive checkdowns in one quarter? Most second half shutouts? Most junk yards against a prevent defense? Most 3rd quarter disappearances? Tailored suits with blood circulation restricting pants?

In every sport you need to be dominant up the middle. We are and have been weak up the middle at all levels - DT, LB and Safety.

We like to focus on finesse speed players on the outside.

Dak's window was never open. When the team had a window, he's the one who shut it.

A 3rd? Getting any pick for him is a pipe dream. You know how bad he's been this year? Are you really believing that the rest of the NFL doesn't know it?

Which, in the history of the NFL, has never worked.
