Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

That last line is exactly why I've been one of the few saying it was smarter to wait to trade him than to do so before the draft.

The 2025 draft was a weak draft and hopefully one or both of the 2026 and 2027 drafts will be a lot better.
Every once in a while the Cowboys do something right. In this case I think we did it for the wrong reasons but ultimately all that matters is that we probably got this one right.

That's all I've been talking about. This defense is bad and needs a lot of upgrades. Putting one superstar player on the team might help in some minor way, but it won't magically fix the other 10 starters on defense.
If Parsons takes us from 32nd on defense to 28th what prize does that win us? Zero. Lol.

I know for some people it's about Micah, but to me it's really not. I think he's a great player and I had no doubt he would make the Packers a better team because they already had a good defense.

Right now though, no single defensive player is worth $30 million of cap space with this Cowboys defense, much less $40+ million. It's clear this team needs a lot of help on defense and now they can do that over the next couple of years.
Preach it, brother.

This defense would have been bad with Micah as well. Its that bad.

Now that it is over I am glad they traded him. They have money to sign players and draft picks to help this defense going forward.
He was good on tje field, except for over running the play, giving up, pouting and trying to pad his stats. That said, losing him did hurt on the field, but probably helped the locker room dynamics, that are essential in rebuilding. Image what he would be saying on his podcast, right now.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .
No.
Dallas was 31st LAST year in points per game allowed.
They were 28th in rushing yards allowed.

Trading Micah was admitting your defense sucked and was a couple years away.

The takes that Micah made this defense even average is dreamland stuff.

Been saying for years .....if you review starters for BOTH Super Bowl teams mostly every year, you will notice at TWO elite/All-Pros on BOTH sides of the ball. Its why I was begging Jerry to get another elite player or two, making it harder to focus on taking out one player.

How was the defense with and without Parsons last year?

IE was it ranked higher or lower in the games he was in?
Or is that type of stat even available?

Honest question, not some gotcha follow up.

To me, it all comes down to what did the team do with Parsons here?
Yea but what have they done with CeeDee here? What have they done with Dak (who is a lot more expensive) here? What did we do with Witten here? What did we do with Romo here? Tank? Dez? Tyron Smith? Martin? Fredbeard?

Do we not pay great players because Jerry cannot build a championship team?

I just do not get why he was the line.......

...c'mon Diehard, the Parson experiment is over.

Dallas had historic bad defense last year with him.

We did right thing letting guy go> I dont miss him a bit.

IF Eberfluke, gets his crap together, the further he'll be from everyone's mind.
Then why did we want to resign him?

Micah could win multiple SB MVPs and most of the posters on this forum will still say he's nothing special. It's part of the collective delusion.

The defense would clearly.. undeniably be better with Micah on the team. He would make every team in the league better if he were on their team.

But that being said, I had them at 7-10 or 6-11 with him. So I don't think we were doing anything with him this year. There was a point , the GB playoff loss, where I wanted DQ to be promoted to HC, in part to make sure Parsons would want to stay. By mid August, I didn't care. I was tired of him and Jerry.. sign him.. trade him.. whatever?

The big pieces, Dak, CD, Micah, Osa?, Diggs, we were even close to winning anything of substance with them. The team of losers has just been getting more expensive.

Personally I would have never resigned Dak. Would have 2 of 3ed CD and Micah, but it is what it is.

I guess it really boils down to what we do with our cap and picks next year. We can't really gauge any part of the Micah for at least a year or 2.

The point is there was a plan in place for MP to be a part of the defensive scheme. No one else on this team fit that role to possibly have the defense continue the same route it was already directed to take. So to make that change a week before, did make a significant difference and I'd agree with @Diehardblues. Not saying they would have been top ten, but definitely more serviceable imo.

And again, not going to go into it cause I'm tired of saying it, but trading him has zero to do with the ability to sign other players - go see Rams and Eagles years they won the SB. The cap can always be maneuvered if you have a FO is competent. Yes, the picks are nice, but no where near what MP would have garnered if a plan was in place a year ago when the FO knew they weren't going to re-sign him.
Right. If we actually had a plan in place then I think most could have got on board.

But it was our intention to resign him and only bailed out on trade when that collapsed.

Regardless how it works out moving forward it derailed our defense this year.

Was it going to be bad . Perhaps but when we got everyone healthy might have been enough with this offense to be more competitive. And that is the point of this thread .

The defense was garbage with him. At least we have picks and money to have a chance to get better talent on this team.

Even if Micah would have made a difference in a few games. He would disappear in December and any playoff games anyway.
The trade is still for the better for this rebuild.

And it is a soft rebuild regardless if anyone believes otherwise.
I still call BS on the rebuild which hasn’t been officially designated as such. Just fans wanting to justify the last minute bailout trade.

Yes, and there would have been one point of failure had we kept him. The players the Cowboys can sign or even re-sign combined with the additional draft picks provide several.

Meaning, if Micah gets hurt (and he's still dealing with back issues in Green Bay) and misses games, that would be like missing several players for the Cowboys next season because not paying him $40+ million gave them that opportunity.

Regardless, this defense is bad. We could have two Micahs or two Wares or two anybodies and it wouldn't help.

The scheme is bad. Our secondary is bad. All Micah would have done at best is provide a bandaid with an occasional blow-out loss because the band-aid came off.
Then why did we want to resign him only to bailout in the 11th hour when couldn’t get a deal done .

His cap hit in Green Bay is only 10 million this year . Those average salaries present a misleading narrative .

He was in our plans this year and the impact of his sudden departure has made an impact. How much can be argued.

Because he pissed the old geezer off. Jerry did it for revenge and revenge only.

I don't disagree but with Parsons and Lawrence we might have the 23rd ranked defense not 32nd. That might be good for 4-2 right now with the way the offense has played.

On your second point I'm willing to reevaluate if they spend the $30M in cap that's rolling over, when instead I see more bargain bin shopping and saying "we signed Pickens you have to think of the pie..."
Right. And that’s more of the jest of my point in this thread.
