Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .
Him going and the DC have created the perfect storm. Micah would be losing his mind if he was here now.

I don't know why but it seems there are always fans ready to pounce on the best players and blame them for all the problems the team has. Trade Dak was big at one point. Trade Diggs is still raging. Trade Micah was running around for a while, until we traded him.

Players come and go. They retire, get hurt, or just quit. New players take their places. The trick for any GM is to continuously upgrade the level of talent on the roster. Its that last part where Jerry seems to fail the most. We lose players and replace them with worse players too often.

Of course Micah made the defense better. Only someone deficient would say otherwise. I watched the Packers-Bengals all-22 today. If you just look at the stat sheet you might conclude Micah didn't do anything. But if you watch the video you will notice that, a) is not terrible against the run, and b) the number of double and triple teams he gets frees up other players to make plays. That's what Micah does. He forces the opposing offense to account for him. You do not see him getting blocked by TEs or WRs. There was one play where the Bengals brought a TE across the field in motion to block Micah and Micah just tossed him aside. Then there was an OT waiting for him. Contrast that to the Panthers using there TEs and WRs to shove the Cowboys DEs out of the holes so Dowdle could run for 7 yards. There is no doubt if Micah was still playing for the Cowboys he would make the defense better. But defenses are still a team effort. Expecting 1 player to change the game is silly.

Dallas has had a problem stopping the run for years. It is not because Micah is not good against the run. It is because their front 7 is not good against the run. The CBs do not support the run, and the safeties are not particularly instinctive. This is why there is no trade Jerry can make at this point to make this defense good.

I thought for sure after what we’ve seen thus far this forum might have seen the light. It’s been a hot topic around town.

Just another example how this forum isn’t in tune with the local vibe of Cowboys Nation.

...c'mon Diehard, the Parson experiment is over.

Dallas had historic bad defense last year with him.

We did right thing letting guy go> I dont miss him a bit.

IF Eberfluke, gets his crap together, the further he'll be from everyone's mind.
The defense was far worse when he was out last year. You need to improve the defense not make it worse.

Just another issue people can’t get past their dug in, stubborn, knee jerk opinion on and They won’t change it (or at least admit to perhaps being incorrect) no matter how glaring the proof because people are more interested in being “right” than being objective. This team is night and day different with and without Micah. There’s just no reasonable way to deny it. People who can’t admit that just aren’t honest or have no clue how an elite pass rusher affects every single aspect of a defense. The CBs cover for a shorter amount of time, the other pass rushers get little attention, safeties don’t have to be constantly worried about providing deep help and can play closer to the line to help the run game, etc…

But Micah is gone and not coming back. Why are we still starting threads about it like him being here is an option? The discussion is no longer Micah here or not here, it’s about how we use those picks to create a better team. Will we? I’d be lying if I said I was confident we’d hit 4 home runs between our two first rounders and GBs two, but I’m sure as heck going to root for it. Unfortunately, our picks are looking like they may be a little earlier than I originally thought, but not exactly shocking.

Hopefully the future is brighter when we come out the other side. Go Cowboys!!!

I think it was emotionally devastating to the defense, which has accentuated its poor play. But it wasn’t devastating on a practical level.

Our defense was horrible last season as well and Micah was MIA in several big games. He’s an overrated player, which made him perfect trade fodder.

That’s left to be seen. I’d just argue it would be easier to build around Micah than start over.

And his contract is overblown. His Cap hits are manageable until back end of contract.

Like only 9 million this year. 19 and 26 following. Last year is 42 and when you look to renegotiate or move on.

And that’s the nutshell of my argument . We are better defense with him.

The money is just a talking point. Cap hit this year less than 10 million. Less than 20 next year .
No matter what, it's like this concept just isn't understood by the fan base. Cap savings aren't a thing. It's if you have a competent FO, they can maneuver the cap to do what they want to achieve. Just so happens, this ownership just wants to keep building the team's valuation, keep the "lights on" with low budget signings, and keep things status quo with inhouse signings only.

The last two years they've had leftover cap space and you see what kind of moves were made. Objective hasn't ever been winning on the field for awhile now or they would have truly gone "all in" after 49ers playoff loss. MP is just another distraction to hide their lack of dedication to build a winner on the field.

Seems like there's a big difference in saying we'd be better with Micah -- which few if any disagree with -- and saying losing one player "devastated" our defense.
Well, if one player makes your defense better and that in turn is the difference between winning more games then I’d argue the end result is devastating. Context is always important.

This is funny. Can you tell us the radius from the stadium, or Dallas City Hall, where opinions start losing their validity?

Is it five miles, ten miles, 30 miles?

Sorry if I didn’t make that clear. Context is critical. I meant devasting to the team and ultimately the results.

We would have gone from 31st in defense to 26th at the best

I’m just saying. The pulse of this forum often doesn’t align with the local or area Cowboys Nation . Meaning our local newspapers, radio and TV affiliates which often echo the fans.

Dallas area fans and media have NOT supported trading Micah.

Cowboy fans and media generally in Dallas have attacked the mismanaging of Micah’s contract negotiation. And hold Jethro directly responsible for derailing whatever hopes we might have had this season with last minute bail out trade.

Who knows how the Cowboys would structure his contract. They should of built around him long time ago, but it is so bad, they needed multiple players to improve this unit.

You are assuming our front office has football acumen.

Sadly they don't.

Your observation is just one in a long list of failures.

Yeah but if we are bad anyway then what’s the point? We saw the Cowboys themselves take Micah out the game. And truthfully he hasn’t been as impactful as the season goes on. I wonder if he’s hurt or are the back issues real.

They need a bunch more than they would have with him. How long will that take.

And will that basically waste Daks remaining years? Like it will this year.

I’d argue we have more questions than answers at this point. Perhaps some of you have more faith in our dysfunctional ownership than I do.
