Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

This is kinda funny because I just read 2 articles that suggested just the opposite. That the Cowboys may actually fare better later on especially since Micah hasn't blown the doors off at GB. Our defense was garbage before he left. More than anything, we could not stop the run last weekend and that has been a constant even when Micah was here.

You know a good way to stop the run? Get a lead and force them to pass. With no pass rush we can't stop the passing game either. When Micah was here and the defense was good we got after the QB and forced mistakes and took the ball away. We would score, rinse and repeat. We also had Tank. Despite his critics he was a very good player, especially against the run and getting pressure.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .

When you're rebuilding your team consequentially will not be good for a while.

I don't think Jerry was ever really serious about signing the guy. There's one thing we should know after 30 years of Jerry. If he wants a guy, the guy is going to be here right? Something threw up a red flag to Jerry, and he decided 1.. We got a draft, a quarterback, and 2. We can't afford to pay that kind of money for a one trick pony.

I think Micah requesting a trade was the red flag for Jerry. He was already pissed at Micah, that just pushed him over the top.

He could have probably signed him the year before for $35ish.

Point being we didn't sniff even a NFC champ playoff game WITH Parsons, let alone a super bowl.

We'll be lucky to make the playoffs...like a lot of years with...and without...him.

Yes...he gave us some stats and talking points. But in the end...as insignificant as any other player...to the ultimate goal.

Theirs is no “ ultimate goal” this era under Jethro except to remain relevant hanging round the rim .

I watched the defense WITH Micah as a Packer give up 40 points to Dallas at the Art Gallery after they jumped out to a 13-0 lead . No I don’t want 40 plus million per going out the door to Parsons . Dallas has too many other holes .

The pff pass rush grade champ was on the field in that game?

You can't get a lead and force them to pass if the defense refuses to even slow the other team down. The best you can hope for is a tie in those situations.. and unfortunately our offense is not getting the benefit of facing our defense so they are at a distinct disadvantage.

He did. But I believe that if one player makes that much difference, then the defense wasn't that good to begin with. Shades of Sean Lee - two different defenses whenever he would play or not play.

The defense was far better statistically with him.
In his 4-game absence Dallas was truly awful on defense. 1-3 record.
But they were just not a good football team at all on the year.

Micah played in both Philly games and we lost by a combined 75-13. They also lost the Detroit game 47-9 though Micah missed that one.

No one single defender in the entire NFL was going to boost the Dallas defense or team to being good.
Paying him so handsomely would have made any impact free agency signings on defense near impossible.

I begged Dallas to tank last year. Instead, they won 7 games.

You had a coach trying to save his job. If they were going to tank they needed to cut McCarthy loose. That obviously wasn't the plan. Jerry is never going to admit he's put together such a bad team that it needs to dump talent and tank.

Saying keeping Micah would fix the defense is like saying keeping Herschel would have fixed the offense.

You saw what it took to fix the 1989 offense - a slew of good draft picks and signing good free agents. All from the trade.

No way Dallas could get that by keeping Micah.

No one is saying resigning him fixes the defense.

Bottomline is does he make our defense enough to be more of a playoff contender and enough to build around .

People keep citing "one player" when in fact it was also Tank who was our best run defender along the front and not having a thumper like Eric Kendricks is also being felt in the LB corps.

Not in the playoffs. When the playoffs roll around the good coaches and coordinators figure stuff out. They figure out how to stay away from their weaknesses and accentuate their strengths. Only time will tell if we have anybody like that on our staff.

I don't know why but it seems there are always fans ready to pounce on the best players and blame them for all the problems the team has. Trade Dak was big at one point. Trade Diggs is still raging. Trade Micah was running around for a while, until we traded him.

It's odd coz I used to think it was any player getting a 2nd contract but it's not. Several Olinemen with 2nd contract got free passes. Skill position players are a different story......especially getting top 5-10 money. I do know player stats play a huge role ............

Micah is a great player. Anyone saying he got garbage sacks do not know anything about football. You could say LT had garbage sacks in 1981 with a 9-7 record which is ludicrous.

Jonesboys record with Micah Parsons on the team was 41-22. It was a dumbo trade by Jerry Dumbo GM Jones.

People forget how hard he played to almost get the team back in the playoff hunt last year until the dumb coach put a DB on a FG block and the DB pulled a Leon Lett touching the ball. He was the only player to walk off the field upset that game.

You had a franchise generational pass rush LB that was also a die hard Cowboys fan and Jerry Dumbo GM Jones got his feelings hurt doing what was a violation of the collective bargaining agreement and made a dumb butt personal decision over a GM football decision....Nuff Said!

8 yard cushions on 4th and 4 is the problem. So are safeties allowing receivers to get behind them. Line backers filling the same gap. Soft as kleenex defensive tackles. But yea, Micah made a difference... I can just hear the podcast now if he were here...

Good point. Fans soured on DLaw because he was expected to get double digit sacks after his big contract. But he was never a pure pass rusher, just an overall good player. Can't leave out Jourdan Lewis either. He wasn't flashy but always seemed to make plays in key moments.

Both Diggs and Bland owe their contracts to Micah Parsons. The free agent contracts that went to guys like Dorrance Armstrong, DeMarcus Lawrence and Jourdan Lewis were the results of Micah Parsons effective pressure on quarterbacks.

Quite often, quarterbacks were sacked by other Cowboys defenders as they were trying to escape Micah. They threw errant passes that were intercepted because they were being chased by him.

Micah Parsons is a catalyst. Even if he wasn't directly involved, he created the environment that led to other's success.

When Jerry Jones traded Micah Parsons a week before the start of the regular season it was if he had ripped the heart right out of this defense.

It was Jerry and Stephen's horrendous salary cap policies with their insistence on procrastinating contract negotiations that led to the departure of Micah Parsons. Their complete disrespect and misunderstanding for Micah's role in the defense was apparent when they insinuated
Micah should accept their deal without input from his agent.

Jerry Jones has a record of paying the wrong players. Jake Ferguson is an average TE benefiting from the Cowboys offensive style as well as their inability to acquire meaningful competition at the position. Odighizua is an average DT benefiting from playing next to Parsons. As previously mentioned, Diggs and Bland are both frauds. Their INT's were a direct result of pressure placed on the quarterback.

Jerry Jones has never possessed the ability to look beyond the surface of NFL stats. In addition, he was entirely willing to sacrifice the potential of this season in an egotistical stunt to remind everybody who is in charge.....as if we didn't alfready know by the results over the past 30 years.

Team personnel executives can spend a lifetime looking for a talent like Micah. One fell into Jerry's lap and he traded him for three players with a small probability of their return ever matching Micah's potential.

And so it goes on. As soon as a team is built with the potential of taking the next step, Jerry steps in and destroys any such potential. As an NFL GM, he is the antonym of competence..
