Lions Fans Afraid of our Run Defense?

I checked out the Lion's fan forum equivalent to ours...and saw these posts.

A poster on their forum, I'll abbreviate as MM, posted this:

"Over the last 3 games there has been one team in the NFL averaging less than 70 yards of rushing allowed a game… The Dallas Cowboys. The moves that Jerry made have made them extremely stout against the run. I don’t expect the Lions do be able to run the ball at all. Without St Brown and LaPorta the lions are going to be in a world of hurt and Goff will have to play the game of his life."​

A second similarly gloomy Lions fan, abbreviated as SWA-7 responded:

"We absolutely clowned the cowboys last season, unfortunately I fully expect them to try to do the same to us."​

Personally not worried about the run at all in this defense. Wait I’m a cowboys fan finally saying that and it feels good.

I am leery of Gibbs, he can take it to the house on any given play. I don’t think his YPC will be all that high but he will get his, just limit the big plays.

I love posts like this, because I'm always curious what the fans are saying too..

Don't take this team lightly. They are still good.

I'm sticking with my original prediction: 35-30 Cowboys.

They will run the ball. They are good at it, they have a great back and they know they can't pass it as well without Amon Ra.

Even against a good front like we have now, an NFL offense can run it if you allow them to have long drives.

The key is complementary football, something Schotty preaches constantly.

Stop them on third down and keep their offense in the sideline. Run it ourselves and convert third downs.

And please, please run it in the red zone!

Some nice new additions to the defense justifiably boost optimism, especially with three games where the defense generally throttled the opponent. But I do suggest we think deeper on this.

I am extremely worried about Gibbs,if they can get the ball to him in space he will be lethal and our tacking is abysmal.

Truth: Our run defense ranks 20th in Rushing yards allowed per game and 27th in YPC allowed. Not.Good.

Clearly, though, huge improvements came after the Bye, with Overshown's return and the addition of Q and Wilson.

A look back over 12 games...

Such thoroughly good news, right? And Lions fans are waiving the white flag. My concerns will need wait until tomorrow to be revealed, after a (hopefully) good night's sleep.

Yes indeed the Cowboys have permitted an average of less than 80 yards rushing per game. Yes they've been stingy on a per carry per basis.

BUT. BUT...I gotta counter some of this good news.

None of the last three opponents were good running teams! The Lions and Gibbs with his 6-yards-per carry certainly are.

We've replaced one of our starting linebackers, but not both. Our safeties are aging and slowing.

This game will be an entirely different test.

The fans aint suitin up unless there has been a massive rule change I didn't hear about. I'm sure the Lions players and coaches have a healthy respect for our front.. but they still gonna try to ram it down our throats. And if their line was healthy they might have some success. But they're not healthy which is not a good place to be with our front line coming to town. I loved hearing the stat yesterday that running backs have combined for a total of 117 yards against this defense. Not average.. TOTAL. As in less than 40 yards a game. QBs have been the only source of running success against them.. Goff will NOT be adding to that.

Getting Overshown and a non blind LB in Wilson is better than what we had to start, to at least with the 2nd level.

I feel good about the interior now, just got to hope the edges can still hold the edge/the LBs can clean up before Gibbs gets up to speed.

Translation- Some unaffiliated nobody who works for Uber Eats is worried about athletes on the Dallas Cowboys Defense whom he will watch from the safety of his couch.

3.25 YPC over the last 3 games. 39 YPG average.
