Lets lump everyone in one or two conferences and take the best teams. I get there are rivalries and marketing but that can still remain. The premiere league in england still has plenty of rivalries. They dont even have playoffs. A team at the top wins.

To get the most deserving teams, I have been saying for years that you forego the duplicate division games and have each team play 17 different opponents. 9 Conference games & 8 interconference. The final conference game could be flexed to match up teams like wild card round & help determine final seeding for the playoffs.
