The best head coach Jerry Jones ever hired was famous for building a great culture that was 100% focused on winning. More specifically, it was focused on winning championships. Jimmy.took a 1-15 team and within 4 years made it a SB winner. He built a winning culture.

Jimmy was also famous for something that I haven’t seen here in three decades: HATING TO LOSE. Losing was just completely unacceptable. Jimmy hated losing so bad his players feared even crossing paths with him after a loss. Those days are as old as a black and white photo around here.

If we are ever to get back to winning something meaningful again, we need a culture that HATES losing.

Several fans here often tell me I hate Jerry Jones. Not true at all. I don’t know Jerry and certainly don’t hate him. But I can assure you what I hate with a passion and it is what drives me to write so often about Jerry: I HATE LOSING. I’m sick of it. And I write about it for that reason.

You know how I know Jerry doesn’t hate losing enough? He keeps pretending he can build a winner. He cannot. He’s hired 8 different HCs since Jimmy left, but the culture Jimmy built with its hate of losing left with him. Some of Jimmy’s players kept it long enough to win one last SB.

So until Jerry hates losing as much as most of us here on this forum do, he will never understand that you don’t build culture with ping pong tables, bro hugs, hiring your kids and friends or use of great marketing tricks. YOU HAVE TO HATE LOSING ENOUGH TO CHANGE. He either needs to step away or nothing will change.

I don't know, Bill Parcells seemed to hate it too. Not a guy to mess with on sidelines when team was stinking it up. Never one to give the media credit either for morale victories or losses. We wouldn't see Parcells in his PC saying "gosh darnit, I thought we were a winning team." Or Jimmy. Still remember that PC when Jimmy just said it like it is: "We're a bad team." LOL

I agree that BP hating losing too and he did build a much tougher culture here. But he still had Jerry forcing a WR Parcells didn’t want and when Parcells had delivered a better culture and talent base he left.

And Jerry hired a mlik toast HC in Wade Phillips who hated ruffling feathers. Then Jason Garrett. Jerry didn’t hate losing enough to hire a real HC and let do their job.

To be fair, I think all HCs hate to lose. But the difference was Jimmy and Bill Parcells made the team feel it too. Wade would do an "aw shucks" with his fist. Bill would throw Todd Haley back behind him, tell him to shut up and take charge of the game. Jimmy would just tell the stewardesses not to serve his team, losers don't get to eat. That definitely wouldn't go over as well with today's millionaire athletes, but gotta be some way to bring that culture back that hates to lose.

Jerry Jones has had decades to show everyone he will seriously allow someone else to manage his team and compete for championships. The proof is apparent. It does not matter if he is totally disgusted. It does not matter if he does not care whatsoever. The man is permanently stuck on stupid. He is a narcissist.

And to get a culture that hates losing you must have the requisite talent. Doesn't help the culture if you're just not good.
100% truth.
Jerry does not care about winning.
He wants to win. Just not enough. He loves himself as king more than he hates losing. He doesn’t see scoreboard losses as losing as long as he has eyeballs and rings cash registers.

A winning culture starts with accountability. But there is no accountability in the cowboys organization and hasn’t been since jimmy left. Other than a few years of Parcells.

I fail to see any changes in the culture so far with Schottenheimer. That said, I don’t really blame him for it. I blame the front office.

Serious question, do you think any team has that absolute hatred for losing mentality anymore. Outside of Brady/BB. Modern NFL football seems so.. sanitized?

I think there's so much money in it that it's not about winning. It's about playing the game, and I don't mean football. The money game.

Corporate sponsorships, the buzz word pressers, sounds from the sidelines, the media circuits.

Good question.

I never saw a mess like the so-called Cowboys today. And how long it will take to see which coaches stay. Jerry might as well fire all the coaches and coach himself. I know rules are against that. Even in 89 I watched every game. Today sucked.
