Nope i'm cutting steele and promoting nate thomas to LT and moving Guyton to RT or if I absolutely had to keep guyton at LT there are way cheaper options at RT who can primarily run block. Steele would have to cut his salary in half to consider keeping him.

I think the issue is, if you release him you get around $9 million in cap.

But if you sign somebody, you're paying more than that or getting a worse player. That's pretty much what Belt said on his show.

The thing they are ignoring is that they can restructure and still save $8m against the cap.

And honestly....the guy they mention that will be a $20m a year guy....they can work that first year out to be somewhere around 9 or 10m. If he gets a 4 year deal for $80m, give him about $32m as a signing bonus, make his first year contract salary around the minimum and you have replaced Steele and used the money you would have saved to replace him with a better player. And for the record, both Spotrac and OvertheCap have Smith at a value around $13-14m a year, not $20m.

It isn't rocket science.

He is a hole. He is an absolute liability in pass protection. Do you guys even watch the games? He is awful in pass pro. If we are going to have a turnstile there, might as well be a turnstile that is making $2m instead of $18m. Thomas is making $1m. Guyton is $3.5m. Put Guyton at RT where he know he is pretty solid and likely to improve.

Pretty sure there are a couple teams in the playoffs that were starting multiple rookies on their OL.

THere is no reason to keep a player that is awful at 50% (or more) of his job.

I’d be shocked if Steele isn’t a cowboy in 2026. They can restructure his deal to save a decent amount of money and he’s probably the best/most reliable tackle on the roster.
