The Cowboys reached out to Pettine in their search for background information on Parker. Since the hiring, Parker spoke with Pettine and attempted to briefly talk him out of retirement. When that did not work, a standing invitation was given to Pettine to come to The Star in the spring to visit with the staff.

I agree.......let's just say he has turned it down, for now. It would not surprise me at all if he becomes like a senior adviser/assistant head coach. He certainly would give Parker some experience to lean on.

He won't be the first or the last to reject the Cowboys.

There are lots of coaches out there. The key is to find coaches who are teachers. This team is going to get an overhaul, and the majority of the squad could not execute plays properly, exhibited poor fundamentals, didn't understand their assignments and just plain old were not DAWGS.

There was talent, but we all know that means a hill of beans if you can't listen, you have no recognition skills and you don't love playing football.

Everyone is touting this will be a watershed year. I think I still have at least one or two decades of watching this team, and I wonder if this is a turning point for the team.

At the end of the day I wonder if a leopard can change it spots. Or will this team continue to hang its hat on basking in draft genius and salary cap wizard status.

All these articles, and I will choose to sit and wait...for at least a decade. One year doesn't make a standard. We lost that when Landry went into a decline by 87. Johnson had a short run. Switzer was the beginning of the descent to purgatory with a few drop into hell (Campo).

It will take much more for me to stand up and declare that we have a franchise that is dedicated to excellence. The Pettine story is just noise IMO.

But the [year] that I took off after Cleveland, that I needed so that I could feel like I could see colors and smell smells again, that was one of the best years that I've had. ... I'm going to step away and get right, mentally and physically, and make an evaluation down the road."​

Anybody has the right to retire whenever they want but at 59, i wouldn't be surprised to see him come back and work.

It may not be in a full time capacity but very likely as a consultant or advisor.

For people that worked ALL their adult life its hard to not serve others in a professional capacity at just 59 years old with some gas still in the tank
