Can we rebuild defense before Dak is done?

Its going to take at least 2 solid off-seasons to get to at least average imo. But besides serious injury wise I dont think dak is done anytime soon.
Maybe. It really comes down to just how much Jerry is willing to kick to the future. We have the ability to create the most cap space in the NFL. If Jerry does this and lets Parker and Schotty pick the players, there is a slight chance we can do it in one off. Of course, that means acquiring 6-7 new players on D. Our D is simply that talent bereft.

could use a few more offensive weapons

If we get One Real FS, one GOOD CB, 2 VERY GOOD LBs Keep Clowney and Get another DE about as good
this could be a 10-15 D.
That is possible this offseason
IF our Offense (this also means keeping Pickens) performs as well (and with better Tackle Play)
We COULD be real contenders in 2026

I don't think ten consecutive missed playoff years would stop Jerry from extending Dak.
It is not a farfetched assumption. Jerry Jones evaluated both Tony Romo and Dak Prescott as franchise caliber quarterbacks and did/has remained strongly loyal to both men. I believe the most likely exception for the assumption would be if, there was another quarterback on the roster during that period, who excelled due to an unforeseen opportunity to start in place of Prescott. At that point, the events of 2016 would repeat themselves.

Jones is exceptionally confident in his football-related judgment. He has seldomly acted against it over the course of the past 31 years.

No, we don't need more O weapons. We're set there.
Do they make plays when we need them, look at our red zone scoring, and also when we play tough teams, who is that play maker that we can go to in times of need (yes there's Pickens and Lamb) i'll give you that

I know of at least one exception. The 06 Colts. It was kinda weird, they were 21st on D, but suddenly rose up in the playoffs and held 3 of 4 opponents to under 20 pts. The exception was a shootout w/ the Pats that they won 38-34.

Of course, helps a ton when you get to play a Rex Grossman led Bears team in the super bowl. Sometimes you just get the right team and the right time. Same thing when we beat the Steelers in the super bowl, we happened to get a team w/ a subpar QB.
Wasn’t Peyton the Colts QB in 06?

You could say that Zeke won one of those games and Parsons was a nightmare for an old frail Brady. Basically Cooper Rush could have been QB and they win those games.

Are you talking about the same Cooper Rush that has been in the league one year less than Dak and has spent most of his career bouncing on and off of practice squads?

The same Cooper Rush that threw like 3, 4 interceptions vs an Eagles franchise that Dak led Cowboys teams have a winning record against?

The same Cooper Rush that barely averages 140 yards per game passing?

If you believe Rush is capable of winning games as a starter regularly, why haven't 31 other GMs and coaching staffs watched the same film you've watched? Rush has been in the league for 10 years now. Why hasn't he secured a max contract and starting job yet?

Do yourself a favor and stop putting Cooper Rush name in the same sentence of other quarterbacks who have been perennial top ten quarterbacks, who have become an All-Pro and MVP candidate.

Cooper Rush is not capable of doing any of those things.

Thats like me comparing Drew Henson to Tony Romo. Im not sure why people feel comfortable making statements that make them look totally ridiculous and uninformed to real life facts and occurrences.

@TwentyOne can correct me if I am wrong, but I *think* his questions are based with the full understanding of the context of your thread title and post.
Yea, I can see why if just responding to title might have been misleading or not in proper context.

I meant before his current contract is done which I mentioned in OP which could possibly be it for him in Dallas.

Thanks

Most critics believe Prescott is enough to win with if we have a Top defense .

Much lesser QB’s have been to a SB with a great defense.
There are no lesser quarterbacks. Dak has ability, but panics when the pressure gets intense.
He holds the Cowboys back.
They will not have success because of him. For them to succeed they would need to be able to win in spite of him.

Cowboys are in need of basically a total rebuild on defense. We need arguably 2 starting CB, 2 Safeties, a couple LB’s and at least 1 edge rusher. Thats being optimistic.

So how many years will that take ? Even if we were to hit on both 1st round picks this year that only fills 2 spots . Maybe . Again , being very optimistic. And that’s assuming we use both picks on defense.

We currently have no second day picks so doubtful much more immediate starters in 2026 draft on defense. 2027 at best assuming we use both early picks on defense maybe 2 more Day 1 starters.

In 2 years filling 4 starting positions on defense would be optimal. Unless of course we are aggressive in FA and hit on a couple defenders. 2028 we could possibly finish out the rebuild on defense. Maybe begin to be an outlier playoff contender assuming offense is still in tact.

Where will we be on Daks contract in 2028? And where will this offense be in a couple years. I tend to think Jethro screwed himself again. He’ll waste some of Daks most seasoned and experienced years rebuilding defense.

in 2028 after potentially 4 consecutive missed playoff seasons will we be prepared to extend Dak again or begin to look for our future bringing young blood at QB to go with a rebuilt defense?
Raval has a decent chance to start. Let's see about Bland.
We need 2 safeties agreed. 2 LB yes. 1 rusher yes.
draft 1safety

1 LB

1 DE
Rest FA

I know what you meant. I believe he knew what you meant. I am not certain you understand what he meant though--if I understood him correctly.
