Markquese Bell is a guy that I think they have some vision for

We’re talking about 2 seasons ago.

I have no issues with Bell. But this has been the problem with this organization for 30 years.

Instead of trying to improve talent and get better, they continually think our guys just need to work harder to be better.

Solid 3-4 safety, special teams guy. But to just think the light bulb will go on and he will become some star is wild to me.
Who said anything about having to be a star?
How many star safetys are in th league?
Can he perform an effective role in a hybrid capacity?
The answer would most definitely be yes!

I agree about putting Bell back into that nickel/dime LB role.
He was decent in that spot, but to be fair Quinn was forced to go to Bell when they lost LVE as you stated.

The FO didn't have an adequate backup plan and the run game suffered. The underweight Bell got put in and was punished.

Maybe CP and his coaching staff can salvage a couple of the OTHERS- like James.

That's what I'll be interested to see going forward. Can they develop any of these dudes...

Not gonna turn this defense around in one yr...
I think it's a question of what they put around them. For example, the pass rush wasn't going to look great because we couldn't cover for long enough to make it effective. That doesn't mean the rushers don't need to be improved, but they were at a disadvantage. We were at a disadvantage because we had a player like Murray at linebacker. A weak link in the defense can always be exploited by offenses.

No no no.

Move on from everyone on this defense outside of Eze, Osa, Williams, Clark, Overshown.

He is not good. Too small to play linebacker and too slow to play safety
It’s not really possible to move on from everyone. He’s under contract so let’s see if new staff can do something with him and some of the other young players

There's combine speed and game speed. Bell doesn't play like a 4.4 guy, hell, Dez who ran a 4.52 at the combine played a lot faster than Bell. My thought is he's a guy that's better closer to the line of scrimmage and running downhill, similar to Donovan Wilson. Just not fast enough in space.
I think it's more about movement skills than speed. Receivers don't just run in a straight line, so you have to have flexible hips and quick feet to keep up with them when you get matched up one-on-one. Ideally, the defensive coordinator keeps those players out of one-on-one situations as much as possible. That's part of the reason why good zone coverage is important. If you can have players like that facing the QB, instead of chasing a receiver, and using their size and speed to break forward on the ball, they are more effective.

I think we need to get a better back-end safety to pair with Hooker, but believe Bell has a role in our subpackages. If we're giving him man coverage responsibilities, we're doing him a disservice.

We do need a safety, though, who can line up and run when receivers/tight ends when needed. I just don't think that is either Hooker or Bell.

Yes, but is getting a sprinkle of Parker Dust.....

Its long been a trap of this fanbase to fall for BTB or DC.com fluff over selling the impact of coaching hires

Right ,you save me some time having to post twice,

Who in the world thinks get rid of every defensive player except for those 5, are you kidding me I mean it's insane people think this is fantasy football and Madden,

it's not... :muttley:

There's going to be a whole lot more players kept here than them and for good reason.

not a good reason
just do not have the capability to replace them all at once
inability is just bad management

As long as he can do what they ask him to do. Bell isn't a guy you extend unless it's league minimum at this point but they don't currently have a replacement either. Maybe they grab better in free agency or the draft, then cut bell or relegate him to back up.

I think the irony here is you trying to convince us that some of these other better coaching Staffs that Jerry didn't assemble, or the guys that didn't get on the last hiring process, say over Brian Schottenheimer, we were being told around here that that was a major mistake because coaching matters.

Now you're saying coaching doesn't matter.

You know what I think, I think you don't know the answer to that, yeah you just want a troll,

so, somebody mentions a specific player or coach you don't like, you say it doesn't matter, but if it's somebody you do like, it would matter, that's just a typical fan response...

I believe there's some players out there in the league right now that were given up on especially at the quarterback position I mean how is it that Sam Darnold was trash and many of your eyes many of our eyes the league was ready to give up on them and somehow they passed through some of these same coaches I believe there's some overlap just some of the stops that were made with Shanahan and Mcvay for guys like Baker Mayfield ,Geno Smith, Heck Daniel Jones looked a whole lot different when he was with the Colts up until he got hurt last year,

There are plenty of others, but it looks like the next group is going to be a decent payday, Willis the backup with Green Bay all of a sudden, he looks like he's going to have a market, And Mac Jones, looking really good, he's supposed to have a big market.

why is this when they were with the other coaching Staffs that gave up on them, got rid of them for a cup of coffee, and now all of a sudden, they're better,

Was it coincidence, because they just got better with playing time and experience?

I agree. And I would add a safety in FA to replace Wilson. I don’t see a safety falling to us in the draft worth the pick. Downs is not likely to fall that far. So I’d sign a good safety. We can’t draft all the fixes we need on defense with the picks we have. I think 2 of the 3 other big needs we can. Two of either CB, LB, Edge rusher. The one we don’t get we will need to sign a vet who’s still availabile

I think McNeil-Warren and Thienemen will be there at 20 and we might could get one with a slight trade-down to get another pick. But I agree that we should sign a safety in free agency and then see how the draft falls.

Might give us a clue how the Cowboys will be approaching FA and the draft.

@nickeatman with a little insight on Shan & RJ about a #Cowboys player who could have a bigger role in Christian Parker’s defense:

“…You wonder about the versatility of some of these players. The name that I’ve been told twice in the building was Markquese Bell is a guy that I think they have some vision for…”

Eatman said that “tweeners” might be more important in a defense like this, which asks some players to play in multiple spots.

Remember—Dallas gave Bell a three-year deal last offseason.

sorry, I can't see it. he is not athletic. he is not fast. and he is not big enough to play LB. I can't tell you how many games this year, I saw him trailing the recievers, just because he couldn't get there and was late or couldn't catch up.
