One of the talking heads (Cowherd maybe) was doing a comparison to how teams with the top 10 highest paid receivers fared. If I remember correctly only ONE (Philly) made the playoffs.

Thats a pretty telling statistic. I don’t see how we can have two of them on the same team, unless we want to be the Bengals.

I agree with you,
We don’t draft football players,
We draft flash. And then you have to pay for it.
Teams that win draft football players
The difference is a football player is a team player
Flash is all for themselves

I think the question i would have is whether its the total value of their contract or if its the year cap hit.

There is no reason the Cowboys cant pay both ceedee and Pickens and have the best duo in the nfl and also structure the contracts in a manner that frees up enough to sign other players.

Cowboys had a lot of injuries on defenses that kept them from making the playoffs.

Bengals did not have Burrow at QB most of the season, that kept them out of the playoffs.

Vikings had crap at QB all season long, that contributed to them missing the playoffs.

See the pattern..
It is not because teams had high paid WR’s.

What happens when JSN gets paid in Seattle?
Do they now miss the playoffs, I don’t think anyone will predict that.

Correct. They can indeed do it. But, they can't build a defense having 2 of the top 5 paid wrs in the NFL. So whats the point?

The team needs to be rebalanced and reconstructed.

I think they are going to have to be creative cap wise to rebuild fast enough to take advantage of where dak is at this point in his career.

They need 2 tier one fas on defense along with the 2 first round picks, plus a couple tier two guys to complete a quick defensive turn- that would be 6 new starters.

They do that and add an oline piece from a mid round and keep the rest of the offense in tact and they will be a very competitive team.

They are juat going to have to move money around and get creative or dak is going to age out before a rebuild is done

So what kind of impact has having the highest paid QB in NFL history had for the franchise?

I'm sure many of us wouldn't be as bothered by it if he was producing on Tom Brady or Mahomes levels, but that isn't the return Jerry is getting for his money so far.

Well in fairness to dak, he earned his contract in 2025, he was a top 5 qb and was not the problem.

However, I wish he would give back some dollars or at the least get creative to help the Cowboys bring in some big defensive help.

Yes, there actually is a reason. His name is Stephen Jones. He is dumb, lazy, stubborn and cheap. A lethal combination for a guy in charge of doling out contracts. Other cap guys get it done. Ours can't.

Fair on all accounts

We can't win a SB with an average or below average Defense.

Seattle isn't paying their QB1, and just let their RB1 go......both after signing key free agents and rolling the dice on their amazing HC. The magic potion worked for them brilliantly

For how long? Just a matter of time as it cycles through all teams.

Been saying this all along. You can't tie up that much at WR and fill out the rest of the roster. Especially when you're in the position of trying to improve the worst defense in the league.

History is full of high flying offenses that won a ton of regular season games only to fall short against the best defenses in the tournament.

Yep, paying your QB 30m vs 60m is a huge difference and opens up a lot of opportunities to sign good role players. Heck, Sam Darnold had to PAY money to play in the SB.
However, I think the bigger issue is that coaching matters way more than people like Jerry want to admit.

How did that become a fact? Of course you can have a good defense, even paying your offensive playmakers.

I don’t think it’s intentional. For instance I think Overshown is a football player. Hes hurt. I think we have football players. I think we have culture issues. I mean it’s no secret that when Shotty came here he recognized it.
