Cowboys will not tender Brock Hoffman

Weird that they tendered Bass over Hoffman.

Bass can only play guard. Don't know what the plan is at backup center without Hoffman.
There was talk that Bass had been working at C as well. I am pretty sure they staff knows what they have in the two of them.

Multiple articles talking about it.

I give new staff no cred until they show they deserve it
so saying naturally they know what they are doing is dumb

He will be in our division. Philly could use him. I think we made a mistake here.
The Eagles are likely to attempt to extend Tyler Steen this offseason. Not sure they would pursue Hoffman. With Dickinson and Steen they may think they are set at guard.

Maybe he is a depth piece taken later in FA. Who knows? Is he a potential starter?

I believe it's a mistake. This shows how much the current decision makers value quality depth players.

I’m a little surprised he’s a really good backup and solid starter when he has a chance to play.

Placing the tender on Hoffman and letting Bass walk would have made more sense IMO. Hoffman’s ability to play multiple spots made him the fire fighter of the Oline.
Hoffman is not a fulltime starter. They think Bass would be for someone and Bass has been working on snaps.

As others have said, my read is that they essentially had to choose between Bass and Hoffman, cuz they can only apply the 2nd round tender once. So that means the one they didn't tender with the 2nd slot could only get the "right of first refusal" tender, but my understanding is that they then wouldn't be eligible for a comp pick if he signs somewhere else under that tender. So since they believe it's likely he'll be out of their price range, to preserve the comp pick they let him walk as a UFA. Bummer to let a decent player go, but overall, probably the right process in terms of asset management, comp pick management, etc.

All of this, by the way, doesn't preclude them from bringing him back if he doesn't get the interest expected on the open market. Highly unlikely I assume though, since we'd be paying him to be a backup and others will pay him to start.

I'd hate to see Hoffman go.

He's quality depth. in the NFL, quality depth is a luxury.

Can't keep them all - our season next two years doesn't depend on this guy lol

This is where you shave $4m to make room for others....

Not sure I understand this. We need a backup center to Beebe and don't really have one other than Hoffman. Bass has cross-trained at the position.

Maybe they have intel that Bass would be swooped up, but there's not a lot of interest in Hoffman.

They'd probably like to, but feel they can't keep everyone, and think Bass can play Center.

Hoffman is a starter who can't start here. Gotta let him go even though I'm sure they don't want him to leave.
It’s the cap.

After Bass got his 5M, no $$$ left for Hoffman.
