My takeaway from the Crosby Failed trade-ready to spend!

I think we all agree, giving up two 1st rd picks for Maxx Crosby was an overpay. Biggest takeaway is that the Cowboys Front Office made a legitimate offer and was willing to make a big move. Heard on this board for months, that there is no way they could keep Pickens and land a big ticket player. They just proved they certainly have the ability to do just that. Been saying they can create over 100 million in cap if they wanted to.

Next week, is the start of fa, it is time for Cowboys management to prove they were telling the truth that they will actually spend money on the open market this yr, not to just resign their own and bottom fish, but to sign legitimate starters. If we are here next week without at least an impact signing, then nothing has changed. We will find out soon as they have to play their hand!

Restructuring Osa while extending Clark and Williams opens up around $30 million, more or less. Could also mess with Bland and Ferguson's deals to open some more money; and cut Hooker, Donovan Wilson, or both.

I think it’s because of their lack of football acumen and the absence of a consistent defensive philosophy that they are being held back. As a result, they take a careful, calculated approach to signing players on cheap contracts, even though these moves rarely achieve anything substantial.

Question…..I think it’s fair to assume that if the QW trade didn’t happen, they would have done the Crosby deal.

So it essentially came down to either/or. Which of the two would you rather have?

I prefer things as they went down, but I liked QW even before we got him, so I may be a bit biased.

It’s amazing how people refuse to look at the numbers before making claims of spending big.

No one takes into account this team also loves to roll cap money over.

I think one of the reasons they wanted Crosby so bad was his contract was going to be cap friendly. The fact that they pursued Crosby is not a sign they are ready to spend money. I expect some more Fowler Murray Elam type signings. Hopefully one or two of them work out this time.

Designating Terence Steele a post-June 1 cut frees $14 million. That pays for the draft class.

Now, here are the max savings for extending Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark- $15.5 million for Quinnen and $15.3 million for Clark.

The Cowboys are right up against the cap right now. If they make all the moves above, that's over $60 million of space, not even counting Steele until June.

Because FA contracts require money up front. Trades don’t come with any signing bonuses or guaranteed money that needs paid. It’s partially because the jones boys don’t like to spend money.
