My takeaway from the Crosby Failed trade-ready to spend!

I think we all agree, giving up two 1st rd picks for Maxx Crosby was an overpay. Biggest takeaway is that the Cowboys Front Office made a legitimate offer and was willing to make a big move. Heard on this board for months, that there is no way they could keep Pickens and land a big ticket player. They just proved they certainly have the ability to do just that. Been saying they can create over 100 million in cap if they wanted to.

Next week, is the start of fa, it is time for Cowboys management to prove they were telling the truth that they will actually spend money on the open market this yr, not to just resign their own and bottom fish, but to sign legitimate starters. If we are here next week without at least an impact signing, then nothing has changed. We will find out soon as they have to play their hand!
Go get Loyd!

After tendering Aubrey and Bass we have zero cap space. Current draft class is projecting $12M.

So technically $12M in the hole.

What is Jerry's next step and what is he waiting for???

Are we keeping Osa, Clark and Williams???
Is the $12 million based on 7 draft picks. As for each team. As an average. Or is this projected for Dallas with the picks they currently have.
As no 2nd or 3rd round picks, so is that factored in or not.

Because FA contracts require money up front. Trades don’t come with any signing bonuses or guaranteed money that needs paid. It’s partially because the jones boys don’t like to spend money.
Not really, most FA contracts are minimal up front and back loaded. Theres no reason to think they wont spend after Crosby, UNLESS they just dont like the player/s

No, it is based on our current draft picks.

According to Chat Sports the Cowboys can create $12 million with an Osa restructure, $8.69 million with a Bland restructure, and $4.88 with a Jake Ferguson restructure. Cutting Malik Hooker adds $7 million.

Designating Terence Steele a post-June 1 cut frees $14 million. That pays for the draft class.

Now, here are the max savings for extending Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark- $15.5 million for Quinnen and $15.3 million for Clark.

The Cowboys are right up against the cap right now. If they make all the moves above, that's over $60 million of space, not even counting Steele until June.
Who replaced Steele

Question…..I think it’s fair to assume that if the QW trade didn’t happen, they would have done the Crosby deal.

So it essentially came down to either/or. Which of the two would you rather have?

I prefer things as they went down, but I liked QW even before we got him, so I may be a bit biased.
Williams is more important. Not only being an excellent run defender, but he can disrupt the pocket. These players are hard to find.

Yes.

Two first rounders jumps the number up considerably. Believe the number is closer to 15 million.

Exactly! Rare. He was well worth parting with two premium picks for.

Nothing against Crosby but they are a little easier to find, and we may already have something special in EZ.

Teams that are playing in late January are often collapsing the pocket from the inside.

Don't forget we dumped off Mazi, as bonus.

I think they should be front loaded, and pay the player for the GREAT year they just came off of, who knows when the contract starts to increase years in the deal that the player will be playing at the same level

They should be back loaded with unguaranteed money.

Like that!! I think every position should have a capped number on it. TOP you can get for a QB is 40 million, LT top you can get is 30, EDGE 32million ya know! All this resetting the market, when will it be in the nfl that a player is making 100 million a year lol

The issue is you're thinking in terms of cap and not cash. Trade for a player like Crosby and he doesn't make a dime until the games start months from now. If they sign someone like Hendrickson for lets say 3 years/$100m with $50m of that money guaranteed, Jerry has to write a check for $50m that same day.

Its a lot cheaper for an owner to utilize the trade market than it is free agency...not always from a cap perspective but from a cash one.

Why is the draft capital so high? I remember when you only needed to pull like 4-5 mil for it not that long ago, or am I mistaken?

So in essence, the Jones saw a potential Crosby deal as a way to more cheaply solve an issue in free agency?

Yes.

not really, a 12 and 20 do not cost that much and without a second or third rd pick it probably will be around $10-12 million
not like we are talking a top 5 pick coupled with say a 14 pick

Exactly. It’s why they would rather go get a Kenneth Murray for $7m a year and give up a draft pick to get him instead of just going to FA and getting a $7m player.

It’s cutting corners on filling out the roster to save a few bucks that has kept the cowboys from getting over the hump.
