My takeaway from the Crosby Failed trade-ready to spend!

If they want to. They absolutely have to add talent to the defense. I don’t believe they were ever serious players for Crosby. Jerry did something he’s good at. Making something seem like he’s going to do it when he knows he has no intention of doing it.
Another team wanted it more.

Well I would assume the cap going up has something to do with it possibly?
You are correct. The cap went up $22m so all teams had the benefit.

That is included in the $301.2m that is the basis for all of the numbers we are seeing discussed.

The issue is you're thinking in terms of cap and not cash. Trade for a player like Crosby and he doesn't make a dime until the games start months from now. If they sign someone like Hendrickson for lets say 3 years/$100m with $50m of that money guaranteed, Jerry has to write a check for $50m that same day.

Its a lot cheaper for an owner to utilize the trade market than it is free agency...not always from a cap perspective but from a cash one.
Yeah that's true. My expectations are based on cap.

its not as high as some think but it rises every year as the cap does

Now the rookie salary cap has made big difference in that a top 5 pick pick will not automatically cripple you if he busts badly, a first overall QB bust like Jumongous Russell will no longer all but destroy a franchise for some years.

I think our rookie cap hit last year was around $9 million; I think I saw that number somewhere. Might be wrong, might not be that year. But those claiming its going to be like $17 million are off by a fair amount
some AI, but some checking makes it stand up and moving from $9 to $14 seems close enough for a year and an increased cap in 2026.

Key 2026 Draft Class Details:
  • Total Rookie Cap Estimate: $14,232,469.
  • Pick #12: $4,587,359.
  • Pick #20: $3,662,366.
  • Context: These, along with other picks, fit within the rookie pool, but only the top 51 salaries actually count toward the team's cap limit

I think we all agree, giving up two 1st rd picks for Maxx Crosby was an overpay. Biggest takeaway is that the Cowboys Front Office made a legitimate offer and was willing to make a big move. Heard on this board for months, that there is no way they could keep Pickens and land a big ticket player. They just proved they certainly have the ability to do just that. Been saying they can create over 100 million in cap if they wanted to.

Next week, is the start of fa, it is time for Cowboys management to prove they were telling the truth that they will actually spend money on the open market this yr, not to just resign their own and bottom fish, but to sign legitimate starters. If we are here next week without at least an impact signing, then nothing has changed. We will find out soon as they have to play their hand!
To me it just shows how Jerry and Stephen are still incompetent as a heads of an NFL front office. They continue to be miscalculate the market and get schooled by better front offices. The Raiders just showed everyone how you trade a player they waited until a team gave them what they wanted. It’s still Saturday but I have concerns that the Cowboys have not restructured Quinnen and Clark. I believe that both tackles want more money than the Cowboys are offering. This is a big week for the team.

we can all agree, these are the topics that seperate the ones who want the JJ splash and dont care about the season, just high five this moment and the true fans who realized it was a pipe dream to have this effect.

The real fans are sitting back paying it no attention.

Well wrong again. I actually have a working job and am spending less time monitoring the Cowboys activities. Thanks for correcting me.
Those restructures are not setting up anything regarding FA.

The Cowboys made the right decision. All this is a credit to them.
They were referring to how the Raiders handled the trade.

Do it before free agency
Put out word of high expectations
Let teams make competing offers
Move quickly

We

Delayed everything until training camp
Put out word we werent trading
Negotiate a backroom deal with one team
Made the trade the week of the opener

Man, I would have been beyond stoked if they had gotten him, like Pickens and 20 for Crosby and raiders 36. Resigned Clowney to make a dope d line….signed a good MLB and another decent rotational lb, drafted best secondary players at 12 and 36, maybe another safety. Add that to a fully healthy Overshown, bland, and revel….i would have been excited over that. Crosby was the first player in a long time I was REALLY excited about maybe picking up, that they were ACTUALLY pursuing….cant remember the last player I was wanting like that. Oh well, hope we can make FA and the draft work for us. Maxx has that dog and motor and skill we need.
