According to Diana Russini, this has happened a few times with the Ravens:

• "This is not the first time a failed physical has scuttled a deal on the Ravens’ end
• It happened in 2018 when they agreed to terms with free-agent wide receiver Ryan Grant but didn’t go through with signing him because of an ankle issue.
• It happened again with Michael Brockers in 2020."

Then there was this Jaire Alexander "trade" last year:

• "On November 1, 2025, the Ravens traded Alexander along with a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
  • On November 11, Alexander announced he would be stepping away from football to focus on his physical and mental health. He was placed on the reserve/retired list the following day."
  • Alexander is on the Eagles for 10 days(!) and retires. Eagles did NOT get the 6th round pick back

Guys, if you buy a great new car that is sold to you as new and then you discovery there’s some mileage - not a lot but some, you expect a lower cost basis.

The injury isn’t the issue it’s the cost.

His mileage is not the unknown. Everyone knows his exact mileage. The unknown is if the knee issue is serious or not. Ravens may have looked for the smallest reason to back out after the flak they got for giving up 2 #1’s.

Nope, any team can back out if a player fails a physical without penalty

None of the deals are official til Wednesday. Anyone can back out during legal tampering period. Backing out of a deal during the tampering period is bad practice but it has happened before.

The packers gave Gary a 4 year 96 million dollar extension 2.5 years ago. Were they stupid then or now? I’m guessing thoughtbpretty highly of him to give him 96 million, no?

2 1/2 years ago. A lot can change in 2 1/2 years, although his numbers overall don't show a lot of change. He did record 9 sacks in 2023 (before the extension) after getting a season-high 9.5 two years earlier and six in just nine games in 2022 before tearing an ACL. They probably thought they had an ascending player when they gave him that extension at the end of his rookie contract.

Trading him for a 2027 fourth-round pick tells me that they don't think nearly as much of him now. Doesn't mean they are right, but teams don't give away their top talent.

Hasn’t fully recovered? From meniscus surgery? My wife’s recovery was two weeks.
