Nick Harris: FO considering LBers AL-Shaair and Brooks

What are your thoughts of CJ Allen at 20? Heard he blew them away in his interview at the combine. I know many have mixed opinions about him but he fits exactly what CP described what type of player he is looking for at his press conference.

He didn’t look good at his pro day at all. On top of that, there’s a knee injury that clearly hasn’t fully healed. What really bothers me is how some Cowboys media are brushing it off like it’s no big deal. That kind of homer coverage is exactly why I can’t stand a lot of Cowboys media.

I’m not gonna lie… I’m not crazy about Allen at 20. He may be smart but I also want good athleticism from my LB’s, and his movement skills leaves a lot to be desired IMO.

And I think Parker also wants a good athlete there.

I don’t doubt that he has a high football IQ and that he’s the right kind of guy… but he just doesn’t move like a modern NFL linebacker needs to move IMO.

There are other LB’s available that also are high football IQ, right kind of guy’s, but they also are better athletes. The first one that pops up in my mind is Rodriguez.

Hell, if you want a downhill thumper that isn’t great in coverage, I might rather have Trotter than Allen.

I’ll admit though, Teams have way more info on him and maybe they like him…

And that’s my only issue. They will go up and spend for their own players but in free agency they draw a line even though free agency is where you have to overpay….

I agree with you in principal. However, I agree with asthma that the available LBs weren’t worth it. Not over paying for what was available but it does put us in a predicament.

I think many of us are being impatient. We aren’t going to the Super Bowl this year no matter what we do

Jaylon had three straight 120+ tackle seasons. Tackles for LBs are much more about quality than quantity.

Unless im playing fantasy football in an IDP league tackles mean next to nothing without context. You're right, Jaylon taught me that.

The issue I’ve always had is I don’t think anyone wants to trade up in this draft. I know I wouldn’t. Unless a Bain or Downs or someone falls but at that point Cowboys should be targeting whoever falls.

I swear all the value says we trade up with Cleveland giving up 12 and 20 for 6 and 39.

We get a blue chip player and then get a LB who is probably a similar prospect to what wed get at 20, in the 39 spot.

Supposedly the Browns are looking to come down and having 3 1s is a good building block.

Also it sucks taking an off ball LB in round one because the 5th year option lumps them in with OLBs and is almost always declined, negating any benefit to the pick.

One of the podcasts they were saying there are likely tentative deals like this in place with some team, contingent on who drops. Of course they are speculating.

Looking around online I see a lot of proposed trades for Brooks, so I came up with my own. If Miami accepted I would do this in a hearbeat:

-Dolphins Get: Pick #20 (1st), Pick #92 (3rd), Pick #152 (5th)

-Cowboys Get: LB Jordyn Brooks, Pick #30 (1st), Pick #130 (4th)

So I am sending Miami picks 20 and 92 in exchange for Brooks and moving ten spots down to 30th in the 1st round; while moving up 22 spots on day three by getting pick 130 in exchange for 152

They’re in a complete rebuild. What makes you think that they favor a WR over any of their many other holes that need fixing?

What makes them not worth it though? To me it’s either they are good or they aren’t. If they are good they are worth the overpay. It’s the Brandon Carr argument. He was a good player. The overpay doesn’t bother me if they do their job.

As far as us not going to the SB you may be right but I at least want to see a valiant effort in doing it.

I get why Browns would want the two 1st rounders. What I can’t get is why they would trade away from talent and miss out on the top 10 guys in this draft. They don’t seem smart enough to do that. But maybe they are. They really need offense.

As for the Carr trade, I was good with it even though he didn’t perform to what he cost. I just believe the LBs available this year won’t even come close. Of course I could be wrong.
