My initial offer would have been our fourth. And if that was shot down, I'd throw in a fifth. And if that was shot down, I'd go as high as our third ... because it's not very realistic that we're going to find a first-team All-Pro with that pick, plus it allows us to address other positions with the two first-rounders.

An offer I'd really consider is Brooks and the 30th pick for our 20th-pick (would even be willing to throw in a late-rounder). That would be equivalent to a third-rounder, maybe a late second with the throw-in. That way we don't lose any first-day or second-day picks, but the linebacker position is taken care of and we can use 12, 30 and 92 to address other defensive needs. We could even trade down with 12 if none of the top defenders is there to add another second-day pick.

Let's say the Dolphins get Bain with their first pick, I could see them wanting an OL or WR and trading up for that. Of course, they are rebuilding so they may just want to stockpile picks and go BPA wherever they pick.

i read somewhere, maybe from a writer that covers the dolphins, he picked a few teams that might be interested. And he tried to figure out fair compensation. When he got to the cowboys he said..

I wouldn't say they did absolutely nothing. They were just lukewarm in their efforts. They made offers...maybe not the best offers but the players do have a say in where they want to go. They swung and missed. Light years from where they were circa 21 - 23'. I'm willing to let the cake bake...if that means Allen or Brooks...or even Rodriguez by some chance, I think it's still a win for the defense, which has enough veteran players to make a difference. You get a day one starter or you get a veteran all-pro. I don't see the downsides of either scenario. I do really like the moves they've made to address the d-line. Ogbonnia and Bullard are big-time run stoppers and can get you TFLs. That will only make the job easier for the LBs.

If the Dolphins just let him go next year as a free agent, they will likely get a 3rd round comp pick.

Currently over the cap is projecting them to have 148m in space for next season. Considering they've dumped just about everyone of value it's hard to imagine them not bringing in more than what they'll lose in FA so that comp pick is pretty much a wash.
Also currently it doesn't look like they have the cap space to cover his dead money. So working that out could be interesting.
His last contract was 3yr 26m. We got a 5th for Lawrence 3 yr 33m. I'd be skeptical that an off the ball LB pushing 30 can pull a contract worth a 3rd !

To me the goal in a deep linebacker draft was always to address linebacker.

But if he is a fit Miami is in complete rebuild mode and we should be able to put something together for him. We could even save our picks and offer up some players that could help them. Names like Mingo, Bass, Bell, Spoon etc..are names that could work.

I think if Osa was worth a third the Dolphins should be able to get a 3rd and a 5th etc, or even a second doesn't seem unreasonable to me. But its one thing to determine value and another to look at the LB depth in the draft and decide you don't need to spend a second.
