My initial offer would have been our fourth. And if that was shot down, I'd throw in a fifth. And if that was shot down, I'd go as high as our third ... because it's not very realistic that we're going to find a first-team All-Pro with that pick, plus it allows us to address other positions with the two first-rounders.And too high for a 1 year rental. Unless he can impact the defense like Pickens did the offense.
Otherwise my idea is no worse than yours.
An offer I'd really consider is Brooks and the 30th pick for our 20th-pick (would even be willing to throw in a late-rounder). That would be equivalent to a third-rounder, maybe a late second with the throw-in. That way we don't lose any first-day or second-day picks, but the linebacker position is taken care of and we can use 12, 30 and 92 to address other defensive needs. We could even trade down with 12 if none of the top defenders is there to add another second-day pick.
Let's say the Dolphins get Bain with their first pick, I could see them wanting an OL or WR and trading up for that. Of course, they are rebuilding so they may just want to stockpile picks and go BPA wherever they pick.
