Cowboys have called to inquire about LB Brooks

Lol you aren't getting a 28 year old 1st Team All Pro for a 5th
Is not even the offer the rumor is the 3rd there's no reason you shouldn't give a 3rd for this guy if you think he can give you two to three seasons of what you need is stabilizing the middle linebacker the green dot wearing position so this 3 4 can get off the ground properly along with a draft pick and yes another free agent linebacker will be needed but they need to break the seal as I say and get one of these deals done..

He is not offering only a 5th I guarantee it but it seems like yes dolphins think he's worth more than a third so they need to keep pushing that 3rd on them all the way into the draft and beyond and see what they can do..

Will move a lot quicker once draft day starts and this won't be the only linebacker there'll be a surprise one available or they might circle back and even get that linebacker from Philadelphia whether you like him or not I think his name is Queen I mean there's gonna be some other names pop up it might be a surprise but that's what happens right around draft or right after the draft teams are dealing where they have A log jam of a position and and they wanna move a player you get a better deal. That's what they did with George Pickens it was after the draft they will do that with linebacker they will figure out what they got and what they need and things will get moving quicker..

Never liked this setup I thought they can come up with a better idea for free agency it it it comes really early in the new league year but then the draft takes forever Teams really don't know what they are going to get in the draft That's why I think the draft should be first I mean I know it would be a big change for the NFL but if teams were able to have the draft first you did not need this long of a gap between the combine and the draft the over thinking and the waffling it's it's unnecessary...

Can do the draft really early in the new year and then have free agency after that's the only way it makes sense to me I know maybe I'm thinking of it backwards but teams truly know what they need and willing to spend after the draft..

Staying in the normal process that is why a lot more movement happens at draft weekend and into the week or two after there's a lot more movement because now they have more players than they need at some positions and they're willing to move them cheaper..

I wouldn't take less than a first I don't get it I know the waddle situation is supposed to be different it's not that different it still shows value all the trades for receivers of that caliber included a first..

It's not in the Cowboys best interest to take anything less... And in my opinion it needs to be a high first top 15 if not it's a low first and I'm gonna need something else..

I get it's going to cost a team to trade for him a lot of money but it only takes one I mean Green Bay was stupid enough to give up a lot to get Parsons pay Parsons a ridiculous amount of money and then him get hurt and not even help them last year when he when they needed him....

But yes it happens but it's also a risk but if I'm the Cowboys I'm not taking anything less.... That is stupid I don't know where a 4th rounder would even come into play i've heard a two everyone keeps saying his value is a 2nd round That would make it easier to trade him but that's not his worth his worth is at least one first..
Without Pickens signing a new deal with a prospective team if he was traded, no team is giving us a Top 15 pick for potential 1 year player. It would be a team like the Bills/Jags who are 1 player away I'd think

29 years old LB big pass!! Data can be provided for Stephen Jones that shows the decline in linebackers after age 29, so no thanks!! Maxx Crosby is about to be 29 also, not sure why all the Cowboys fans want a bunch of super old guys to help out a defense that got torched!

Draft young players on defense, pretty simple!
You know, I said the same thing a couple of years ago about Bobby Wagner, and I was wrong. Some guys keep themselves in incredible shape, and if we could get three good years out of him, I’d trade a 3rd-round pick right now. We need stability at that position. There are plenty of players in this league who play well past the age people expect—Derrick Henry is one, Terrell Owens was another. Sure, those guys were unique, but you can’t say for sure that Brooks is going to drop off. I admit I was wrong the first time when they were supposed to go after Bobby Wagner and passed. The second time, I was wrong again.

Now, maybe he’s a bit long in the tooth, but Bobby Wagner was still playing at a high level well past that age...

I don't want them to overcompensate but I don't think a 3rd round pick that we got for OSA would be bad compensation for Brooks it's a position of need desperate need but a 3rd I don't feel is too much.. This team does not have time to waste developing guys they get in the draft yes they're gonna draft this position as well as others but we need an immediate starter that can be the glue and the leader of that defense from the linebacker position because that is what a 34 defense needs it starts right there.. They covered a lot of other things already this offseason the way they don't have to reach in a draft but this is a position they've been trying really hard to get and failed so a 3rd for brooks would help stabilize the OTB LB Which is the one position you don't want to reach for in the draft you know you don't want to overdraft.. Don't think you're gonna get a guy like Brooks in the 3rd round unless you're lucky... Is we don't have a second round pick to play with and they're gonna have to move around in the draft I mean I get why you don't overpay but again I was wrong twice about Bobby Wagner..

Well then they need to get Brooks if they can or somebody similar They need to draft one somewhere in the and bring in another one on the free agent list that's leftover Same thing with some pass rushers they're gonna need to do all of that They still have a lot of work to do but you thinking just because he's 29 years old it's over you might want to look around the league players are playing into older ages as long as they're not injury prone and from what I understand this guy is not..

Calling cost nothing.
Dolphins probably want too much. And Jerry is not biting.

A 5th rounder would be great, as he is in the last year of his contract.
And we have 3 of them so trading one away is great for a 1 year rental in Brooks.

Jerry says, take the 5th as shark bait. And it is tough to give up a 5th….oh wait, a 5th of JWB.
5th rounder is a steal. A 3rd round would be ideal

Now if a team was desperate to unload someone for cap reasons or whatever, you will see dumb deals.

But Brooks was All pro and only a fool thinks that a 5th is his value now.

but we do have some fools here drinking the Jones Boys Koolaid

i'd do a 5th this year and a 5th next year that can become a 4th based on playing time and stats.

Agree. And we own ghe 5th rnd lol but the odds of you drafting a guy in the 5th that’s turns into an nfl starter is very low, though LB is one of the positions that can be gotten that late and still be solid. But for a 5th I’d do it in a heartbeat

I don't know maybe my opinion doesn't count, I don't know a lot about this player but I don't think giving up our 3rd we got for Osis too much I mean they should negotiate and start out a maybe they end up landing on a 4th but at this point in the juncture of the offseason regardless of what happens in the draft or what linebacker list is left in free agency we need a really good starter to stabilize this defense at middle linebacker..

The Green Dot guy needs this very important that's why Kendricks a couple years ago for Zimmer played really well but the three we got last year did not, but they need to go get one that actually can work and I'll trust Parker if they give a 3rd for this guy gave his blessing.. No I'm gonna be ripped apart 'cause you're saying he's worth a 5th i'm saying he's worth a 3rd But then let's go ahead and settle on a 4th...

Speaking of last year I mean that was a 4 3 yes linebackers are important in every defense but a 34 is more dependent on the linebackers both the middle linebacker and the Olbs they have to have more important roles are hard to cover up..

So yeah I don't want them overpaying because they have PTSD from last year's group but still...

What data? Even the Cowboys have gotten good play from older linebackers like Kendricks, Brookings and Zach Thomas. What data are you looking at?

If we deal for Brooks, I hope it's just that 3rd round we got for Osa then that's fine. I hope with our first 2 picks we draft young defensive players that are starting day one.

That is a good option.
What these others, or some of them do not see is he is in the last year of his contract.
They gave up a 3rd this year for Pickens, in the last year of his contract. However, we knew, or at least I knew how Pickens could impact the offense. And he did. But now we seen the situation they have, and used the tag on him.

I do not see Brooks having that sort of impact on the defense to give up a 3rd round this. This year. Then what, we will have 2 players in 2027 to figure out what to do, IF he has that sort of impact. Which seems he would be great to have. But not to have a 3rd round pick this year, at that expense. I do not like it at this point.

Tough spot. We don’t have a 2…may be a one year rental. Kind of hard if you are the Cowboys to spend more. Ideally a 3rd should be as high as they should go.
Yeah, I went with a third and fifth as the highest I would go outside of some kind of swap involving 20 and 30. I hate giving up the extra pick, but truth is that you're more likely to find a miss or role player than a star at that point. Of course, our fans fantasize about every pick being a superstar and think they are all more valuable than a proven NFL player.

Yeah giving up a 3rd round pick for an established quality player at LB isn't a bad exchange at all. The hit rates on 3rd round picks isn't great and the Cowboys need players who impact the game in 2026. Brooks does that. In the 3rd round you're likely getting a developmental player or someone who dropped due to injury concerns (Overshown/Revel). Neither is very likely to help in 2026 unless you're drafting for a safer position like RB which likely isnt the case this season.

If this team was truly in a rebuilding year I'd say keep the 3rd, but they need a reliable LB. I wish they would have been more aggressive in FA to get a LB and then just kept the pick, but what's done is done.

Why do we want a veteran linebacker that doesn't make defensive calls? He nor overshown called a defense last year

A third, a fifth, marist, calen carson, and next years fifth for Jordyn brooks and a 4th
I wouldn't think Liufau or Carson has any trade value, but a third, a fifth and next year's fifth would probably be enough for Brooks. Maybe even a third and fifth. Can't see them giving us a fourth in any deal.

Agreed Probably zero actual value but good roster maneuvering to take a decent athlete in Marist and let him play in Miami if we’re gonna move on

The hit rate (depending on what you consider a hit) is less than 50 percent. You might end up with an Odighizuwa (starter-quality), but you also might just get a Chauncey Golston (rotational contributor) or Nashson Wright (a bust here).

Or if we look at the linebackers, you might get an Overshown but you also might get a Liufau.

Issue is data can be provided to show that mid to late round draft picks have a low probability of hitting, especially year 1. It would take a haul for me to move a 1st rounder, but after that I'd be all for cashing in picks for players that can help me today. If were not in win now mode it's pointless to have a QB in his mid 30s.
