At what point is the NFL going to establish max deals like the NBA?
When the players get the owners to scrap the salary cap. So, never. At what point is the NFL going to establish max deals like the NBA?
Dak's extension averaged 60M a year. But he still had 96M owed to him besides his extension. One year 96M + 4 years 240M. He's making more than 60M a year. The fact that the Cowboys have not had a winning season since Dak signed his historic deal may make it a harbinger of NFL QB deals going forward. Better quarterbacks may sign for more guaranteed compensation, but the $60 million AAV could very well stand as “a bridge too far”.
And since Dak signed his deal the two QB1s that won Super Bowls are not paid $60 million per year and are also not considered future Hall of Famers. It’s been 19 months Prescott has held the top spot. I suspect it will be many, many more.
That’s impressive. It’s a lot of money. Good for him.Dak's extension averaged 60M a year. But he still had 96M owed to him besides his extension. One year 96M + 4 years 240M. He's making more than 60M a year.
You do understand who ultimately pays player salaries right? Fans already complain about NFL games being on all pay channels. It is only going to get worse and the fans pay the price! This is what I mean when I say that some fans are mad at players getting paid, period. They try to use the ol' "it's cuz the salary cap" excuse but this isn't even our salary cap being abused here and they're mad. Thanks for proving the point, Beaker Streaker. Lol.
Yes. Money from the networks pays it and money from.advertisers pays the networks. Before pay TV, how do you think they got paid? Beer and hot dog sales? Lol. Games being on pay TV is the NFL simply betting that your addiction will drive you to pay for what had always been free. They're overwhelmingly right. So as much as fans will complain, they will still fork over the payment and the NFL wins. You do understand who ultimately pays player salaries right? Too many NBA players think they are max players. Some of those players with max contracts…oof. All guaranteed money. At what point is the NFL going to establish max deals like the NBA?
The point is it really doesn’t have as much to do with the QB outside of the truly elite players….and even then Brady/Mahomes signed pretty team friendly deals. If you don’t have a top 2 or 3 outlier type player at the position you’ll be as good as the supporting cast, and even currently we are seeing regression from Mahomes as his cap hit goes up and talent level on that offense goes down.Have you seen all the super bowls the bottom ten QBs have won like Mahomes and Brady? Yep, we should be looking for QBs as bad as them, definitely not top 10 QBs.![]()
I don’t totally disagree with you but last year was more of an outlier. Along with the 2018 beagles in the last ten years. The point is it really doesn’t have as much to do with the QB outside of the truly elite players….and even then Brady/Mahomes signed pretty team friendly deals. We see that Sam Darnold as every bit the chance to win a Super Bowl as a Joe burrow. Baker mayfield was a total bust until he got to Tampa. It used to be a reasonable thought that at least a premium qb gets you to the playoffs, but last year there was no Dak… no burrow….no Jackson….no Mahomes.
For the most part the qb position is more about avoiding a dud. Having a top 5 guy vs a top 15 guy is about the same thing these days in terms of chances of winning.
This is the effect when the cap shoots up massively each year. Now to be fair this isn't 3yr 50mil have in actuality. It's 2 existing+3At what point is the NFL going to establish max deals like the NBA?

So now players are responsible for the high price of goods you pay therefore you should be getting mad at players for their salaries? That's where we started, remember? You should have quit while you were behind instead of this circling the drain logic you're manufacturing. You do understand who ultimately pays for advertising right?
This is not rocket science - it goes into the price you pay for goods!
when the money dries up and it will eventually the choices will be get a real job or take or take less. NFL is really getting close to max saturation, it is mostly an american game and while there may be a few million fans outside the USA it will not compete with likes of soccer or other sports.Less rookie wages meant more for vets so I get it. I don’t know what incentive the players would have you agree to less money.
Maybe it will happen at some point but I don’t think in our lives it will. It’s thriving and they are printing money. It’s not as global as soccer and may never be but it’s even progressing there. The move to streaming benefits their exposure to overseas and if the talk is real about expanding to teams outside of the Us? Who knows how that will go.when the money dries up and it will eventually the choices will be get a real job or take or take less. The guys in the NBA get so much money I forgot there even was a cap. If you’re a second or 3rd tier you will make 50 million a year.At what point is the NFL going to establish max deals like the NBA?
Who said I was mad at players. I just wanted to make sure you understand the economics of entertainment because sometimes you act like you don't. Jerry is not losing money! He is not paying them out of his pocket! So now players are responsible for the high price of goods you pay therefore you should be getting mad at players for their salaries?
