With the statement that there will be no extension for Pickens, do you feel it's better to draft his replacement now, or next year?
I have defense derangement. Fix the defenseWith the statement that there will be no extension for Pickens, do you feel it's better to draft his replacement now, or next year
Bob- very hypothetical here by me.Nothing at all against Pickens but he’s going to cost more than this team can afford (or willing to pay) so I would make a trade whike he has max value.
How do you get him to sign the franchise tag without a long term deal in place with some team? Just going to say “please”?Trade Pickens now and get picks if you can and aren’t going to extend him.

It is irrelevant. He can sign it and refuse to be traded, by refusing a long term deal. How do you get him to sign the franchise tag without a long term deal in place with some team? Just going to say “please”?

The problem is we don’t know if there is any team out there wanting Pickens based on the contract his agent may be trying to get him. There might not be any teams willing to meet those contract demands plus give up the high draft compensation Jerry would want. Plus we are talking about a guy that was a complete headache for 3 years with the Steelers. The teams interested in trading for a WR may have him scratched off their list. Jerry may not be lying when he said that no team has reached out to discuss a trade.Trade Pickens now and get picks if you can and aren’t going to extend him.

No, he can’t refuse a trade, but he can refuse to sign a deal which would dissuade any team from trading for him. Or trading much of anything for him.It is irrelevant. He can sign it and refuse to be traded, by refusing a long term deal.
The ball is in Pickens camp. He can demand a trade or play on the tag.
He already is free to negotiate with any team for a contract. That’s how the non-exclusive franchise tag works. Are you suggesting Jerry allow Pickens and Mulugheta to negotiate the trade deal with the other team, too? I think they’d like that. You give him and his agent permission to negotiate a deal. It happens with tagged players.
