If you are drafting Pickens replacement, is it better to do it now or next year?

I like Pickens a lot but having him still only translated to 7 wins - the same as the playoff-less year before. That’s not Pickens fault but his stats were empty calories last year.

Nothing at all against Pickens but he’s going to cost more than this team can afford (or willing to pay) so I would make a trade whike he has max value.

Contrary to what Jerry may believe, WRs aren’t the cornerstone of a championship team. And finding a good #2 behind Lamb is not as difficult as finding great defenders that can transform a team.

Wide receivers take time. Making him your #3 guy so he has time to learn route concepts at this level while being productive and not forced to go up against the better defensive backs is my preffered way to develop.

When CD's contract was restructured making him cost $47M in 2027, I am pretty sure that sealed Pickens long term demise in Dallas.

So we basically restructured CD, to be able to afford Pickens on the TAG. When we could have left CD's contract alone and just extended Pickens.

Now CD is not even trade-able moving forward.

The problem is we don’t know if there is any team out there wanting Pickens based on the contract his agent may be trying to get him. There might not be any teams willing to meet those contract demands plus give up the high draft compensation Jerry would want. Plus we are talking about a guy that was a complete headache for 3 years with the Steelers. The teams interested in trading for a WR may have him scratched off their list. Jerry may not be lying when he said that no team has reached out to discuss a trade.

No, he can’t refuse a trade, but he can refuse to sign a deal which would dissuade any team from trading for him. Or trading much of anything for him.

He already is free to negotiate with any team for a contract. That’s how the non-exclusive franchise tag works. Are you suggesting Jerry allow Pickens and Mulugheta to negotiate the trade deal with the other team, too? I think they’d like that.
