Cowboys draft after completion of round 4 impressions?

The draft and the offseason make perfect sense.

I can't believe I just wrote that.

Brooks would be the final piece needed.

All things considered they have potentially improved the team, and that's what these last few days were all about. I'm both happy and excited, I think they get an A for the draft moves and selections.

Go Cowboys :flagwave:
I would agree after watching the film on all drafted prospects I would give it an A as well. One player that has stood out to me is Devin Moore pick 114 in the 4th 6-3 195 lb. outside corner. He shows blanket man coverage, and he will hit and wrap up when it comes to making tackles.

Miami wants too much for him. That may change but I wouldn’t wait around. Wagner or Okereke would be solid 1 year additions

I am curious about how you guys are feeling after round 4. What are your impressions of the Cowboys strategy for the draft?

I’ve got a few thoughts I am pondering.

1. Downs was a no brainer based on projection and is a natural selection.

2. The Cowboys obviously focused on defense and I’m ok with that.

3. I said that the Cowboys would prioritize edge high and they did. Did they get the BPA at edge in round 1?

4. Is it just me or does it appear that the Cowboys seemed to have forced an OT pick with the first pick in RD 4?

5. The corner pick in round 4 looks like it might be a great VALUE pick there.

6. I’m really surprised that the Cowboys didn’t take a pure linebacker pick with any pick in RD 4.

7. It’s obvious that CP had a great deal of influence over this draft. The Cowboys seemed to accommodate CP.

8. IF CP turns has a great eye for talent and a plan to use them, and get this defense to gel we might be building something special. On the other hand if not, this thing could really go sideways in a hurry.

9. Voch Lombardi has a video out from pre draft work saying that he did not expect he OT we drafted in RD 4 to be drafted at all.
-I thought day 1 went very well. Downs should be a plug and play starter and really improves the secondary. Lawrence has potential to be a high end rusher and should be able to contribute as part of the rotation right away.
-Day 2 added an intriguing prospect, but hard to project the exact fit. More of a hybrid LB and don't know that he helps at mic which is what the Cowboys really needed.
-Round 4 reminded me why sometimes I don't mind trading away 4th and 5th round picks for an established player. Not sure any of these guys are more than weekly inactives as deep backups. Would have rather packaged these picks to get up and got a player with starting potential. Hope this trio proves me wrong though.

I hope you are right
I certainly have no idea if I am. It's all projection and guesswork right now. There are players I've felt good about who crashed and some I didn't care for who went on to nice careers.

— ABSOLUTELY THRILLED with the Downs pick!
— Lawrence should develop into a disruptive Edge who could be capable of double-digit sacks.
— Barham, I'm thinking will be a good blitzing LB.
— With the trade for Winters they got a plug-and-play starting LB.
— Shelton will offer depth and push Guyton to be his best.
— I like a tall CB who can at least contest jump balls thrown to those big receivers around the league and they might've gotten that with Moore.
— Overton is a fine choice for a 3-4 inline End and possibly a 3T in Dime.

Overall, I've gotta give it an A!

Lots of you simply don't understand the nuance of the picks based upon the scheme CP likes and his assessment of current players.

Scott should have been the pick in the 4th rd. He was there for the taking at 114 and Tampa got him at 116! I can still see Scott snatching that Ohio St pass and racing 72 yards for a pick 6!
And? What does one play have to do anything? Just because you remember it?
